Okay, as a huge Metal Gear fan, I’m seriously hyped right now! Konami just announced Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2, and it’s bringing Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots to modern platforms. For years, that game was stuck on the PS3, so it’s awesome we’ll finally be able to play it on other systems!
Konami made several exciting announcements during the February 12 State of Play presentation. In addition to a new collection of Metal Gear Solid games, they revealed upcoming installments in the Castlevania and Silent Hill series: Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse and Silent Hill: Townfall. Konami also teased a new JRPG called Rev.Noir, though specifics weren’t shared. The presentation ended with Santa Monica Studio announcing the God of War Trilogy Remake and God of War: Sons of Sparta, which was released on PS5 today as a surprise.
Metal Gear Solid 4 Is Finally Coming to Modern Platforms
Following the success of the first collection, Konami has announced Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2, which will be available starting August 27th on PlayStation 5, Steam, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and the new Switch 2. The collection features Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, and Metal Gear: Ghost Babel. It’s available for pre-order on Steam for $49.99 and includes bonus cosmetics for MGS4 and Peace Walker, with even more rewards for players who have save data from the first collection. The compilation also includes digital books and a soundtrack.
First released in June 2008, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots marked the final chapter in Solid Snake’s story as the main character in the Metal Gear series. Picking up after Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, an aging Solid Snake (now known as Old Snake) is given a limited time to live. He’s then sent on a mission by Col. Campbell to eliminate his brother, Liquid Snake, who now inhabits the body of Revolver Ocelot and goes by the name “Liquid Ocelot.” For over 17 years, Guns of the Patriots was only available on PlayStation 3, and fans have long requested a modern version. The upcoming release will include new features like customizable controls and improved performance with a higher frame rate.
Two Portable Metal Gear Solid Titles Also Join the Fray
The upcoming Master Collection, alongside the re-release of Metal Gear Solid 4, will include Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, a highly-rated game originally released on the PSP in 2010. Peace Walker puts players in control of Big Boss, often considered Solid Snake’s father. This new version will feature online co-op for 2-4 players, and a competitive mode for up to six players. Konami confirmed that this port is based on the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection version from 2011 (originally for PS3 and Xbox 360), and players will be able to customize the button controls.

Known as Metal Gear Solid outside of Japan, Ghost Babel tells a standalone story set seven years after the events of the original Metal Gear. This re-release will include features like screen filters, perfect pixel settings, and a rewind function.
