Minecraft has introduced even more baby animals (or ‘mobs’), but be warned – some of these aren’t as friendly as the others! You can check them out now in the Java Snapshot, and they’ll be available soon in the Bedrock Beta. While they’re still cute, many of these new babies are actually hostile, meaning players won’t have the same gentle experience they’ve had with baby horses or farm animals.
At the start of January, Minecraft introduced redesigned baby animals for creatures like cats, pigs, cows, chickens, sheep, and rabbits. These new baby versions aren’t just smaller copies of the adults; they have unique looks, often with bigger heads, and their own sounds. They also behave a little differently and tend to run faster – a pattern that’s continued with the addition of baby horses, aquatic creatures, and wild animals.

Mojang recently revealed seven new baby versions of Minecraft mobs, and players will need to be careful around most of them! The official Minecraft website shows that classic enemies like Piglins are getting a baby form. Expect a bunch of cute but dangerous baby undead creatures too, including baby Zombies, Zombie Villagers, Zombified Piglins, Husks, and Drowned (with the baby Drowned hilariously named ‘Gurgle’). While these smaller mobs might look harmless with their wobbly heads, they’re actually faster and more threatening than the adults!

Players will also be able to breed villagers, resulting in adorable new babies that Mojang says are a huge improvement over the previous design. Beyond the new creatures, the update will also add new sounds, including a Trumpet Note Block and more varied noises for pigs, cows, cats, and chickens.

Unlike earlier baby mob designs, players won’t be able to use the Golden Dandelion to prevent these new babies—including baby villagers—from growing up. The Golden Dandelion was designed to keep passive and neutral baby mobs small indefinitely, but it won’t work on these new additions.
How to Face Off with Hostile Baby Mobs in Minecraft
Image via Mojang You can now preview the early versions of hostile baby mobs in Minecraft, even though they aren’t in the regular game yet. Keep in mind that these beta versions might cause some instability or crashes. To try them out, play the Java Edition by launching the game, selecting the latest Snapshot, and creating a new world. Soon, players using the Bedrock Edition will also be able to test baby mobs through the Minecraft Preview, though a specific release date hasn’t been announced.
