Power Rangers is a long-running and incredibly popular superhero series. It’s originally based on the Japanese show Super Sentai, and actually uses a lot of footage from that series. A big part of what fans love about Power Rangers are the Zords – giant robot machines each Ranger pilots, though some Zords are definitely more impressive than others.
Each team of Power Rangers has a unique set of Zords that fit their theme. These Zords can significantly impact how well a series does. For example, the original Mystic Force series wasn’t popular with fans until the Mystic Zords were introduced. While most Zords are at least a little interesting, only a select few really stand out and become fan favorites.
10. RPM’s Red EagleRacer Is One of the Most Popular Vehicle-Based Zords
Power Rangers: RPM

As a long-time Power Rangers watcher, I’ve always known the vehicle-based Zords are a bit controversial. Some fans really want to stick with the classic animal themes, while others are all about the cars and trucks. But the RPM Red EagleRacer? It’s a clever attempt to bridge that gap. It’s obviously a super-fast race car, but it also incorporates a really striking eagle design – it tries to give you the best of both worlds, and honestly, it does a pretty good job.
The Red EagleRacer is a great design because it pleases most fans while also being incredibly strong. Its ability to fly fits well with its eagle theme. Importantly, it represents an early successful blend of animal and vehicle-based Zord designs.
9. The Gosei Shark Mechazord Is the Best Shark Zord in the Series
Power Rangers: Megaforce
Image via Hasbro While not always fan favorites, the Gosei Zords are easy to understand. They aren’t complete robots themselves, but rather small control centers that combine with everyday technology to become fully functional Zords. For example, the Gosei Shark Mechazord is essentially a high-tech submarine, equipped with both powerful torpedoes and a devastating bite attack.
The Gosei Shark Mechazord is widely considered the most visually appealing and fastest of the Shark Zords, capable of reaching speeds exceeding 150 knots – roughly the speed at which airplanes take off. However, its potential is overshadowed by its somewhat underwhelming appearance in the Power Rangers series. Had it appeared in a different season, it likely would have been a fan favorite.
8. The Blue Dragon Foldingzord Is a Clever Take on a More Restrictive Style
Power Rangers: Samurai
Image via Hasbro Okay, let’s talk about the Blue Dragon Foldingzord. It’s definitely a divisive one – a lot of fans feel like it’s too obviously based on the toy design, which is a common complaint with the Power Rangers Samurai Zords. But honestly, if you’re looking for a standout amongst those classic Samurai Zords, this is it. It’s easily one of the coolest Dragonzords in the whole series, right up there with the original. Plus, the thing breathes blue fire, and apparently, it’s the hottest fire of any Zord! It’s a fun design, even if it’s a little toy-inspired.
Besides its somewhat cheap-looking appearance, a lot of fans dislike Kevin being assigned the Dragon Foldingzord. They feel a water-based Zord, like the swordfish, would have been a better fit for his powers. While this is a valid point, water dragons are common in fantasy, so it’s not entirely strange for Power Rangers to include one.
7. The Cosmic Scorpion Zord is the Only Orange Zord in Power Rangers History
Power Rangers: Cosmic Fury
Image via Hasbro As a huge Power Rangers fan, I’ve always thought the Cosmic Scorpion Zord was awesome! What really sets it apart is that it’s one of the few Zords that uses venom – it’s even the second orange Zord ever! Thankfully, the venom doesn’t actually hurt anyone, but it totally freezes enemies, stopping them in their tracks. Plus, those claws are incredible! They can grab onto bad guys and hold them tight, making it super effective in a fight.
As a huge Power Rangers fan, I’ve always loved the Orange Zord – it’s built like a tank and super durable! While it doesn’t show up in every episode, for me, the Cosmic Scorpion Zord is the absolute best when it comes to insect-based Zords, and honestly, it’s the only one we’ve really gotten! I’m really hoping future Power Rangers seasons explore more bug-themed Zords, but until then, the Cosmic Scorpion Zord definitely reigns supreme.
6. The Mystic Firebird Makes the Mystic Force Red Ranger More Powerful Than Ever
Power Rangers: Mystic Force
Image via Hasbro When Power Rangers Mystic Force debuted, fans weren’t thrilled with the new, human-shaped Zords. It felt like a misstep for the usually successful show. However, the creators quickly addressed this by introducing more popular and traditional Mystic Zords. The most beloved and strongest of these was undoubtedly the Mystic Firebird. This Zord not only gave the Red Ranger a fantastic upgrade, but was also incredibly powerful on its own.
The Zord can fly and has powerful weapons. It’s also essential for forming the Manticore Megazord, which is considered one of the strongest and most impressive Megazords ever. Its incredible speed makes the Red Mystic Ranger a tough fighter. However, it’s worth noting that some other Zords are even faster and more powerful.
5. The Samurai Star Chopper is an Interesting Balance Between Vehicle and Animal Styles
Power Rangers: Ninja Storm
Image via Hasbro The Samurai Star Chopper is a unique Zord that blends the features of both animals and vehicles. While it’s designed like a combat helicopter, it also has a lot of bird-like details. What makes the Star Chopper special is that it comes with remote-controlled drones and can even transform into its own Megazord – a rare ability that shows just how powerful Cam is as a Ranger.
When forming the Megazord, the Samurai Star Chopper uses its spinning blade like a massive throwing star. Cam also has the option to combine it with the existing Storm Megazord, creating the Samurai Storm Megazord. This upgrade gives the Storm Megazord powerful wind abilities, though it does make it a little less agile. While the Samurai Star Chopper is strong, it appears in fewer episodes than the other main Zords.
4. The Wolf Animal Spirit is The Best of the Wolf-Based Zords
Power Rangers: Jungle Fury
Image via Hasbro The Wolf Zord is a remarkably strong and fast Power Ranger Zord. Its blade-like tail can slice through many of the enemies seen in the show. It’s versatile enough to replace the Cheetah Zord and form the Wolf Pride Megazord, and it also works well combined with the powers of the Bat, Elephant, or Shark Zords.
While the Wolf Spirit Zord might not appear as strong as others, it’s exceptionally fast – one of the quickest Zords ever created. It’s faster than many of the original Zords, and even some of the newer ones. Combined with a skilled pilot, this speed makes it a truly powerful force. Unfortunately, it hasn’t received the same level of development or screen time as other popular Zords, even recently.
3. The DinoThunder Tyrannozord Is Even Cooler Than its Tyranosaurus Predecessors
Power Rangers: Dino Thunder
Image via Hasbro The Dino Thunder Tyrannozord is a red Tyrannosaurus-based Zord, and many fans consider it the best. While its powerful, drilling tail is impressive, it’s not even the Zord’s most memorable feature. Though it might not be the fastest Zord, it’s definitely one of the most recognizable in the whole series. In fact, the Tyrannozord was a major reason why longtime fans started watching the show again.
The Red Tyrannozord is the core of the Dino Thunder Megazord, and it can combine with other Zords to create different Megazord forms. It’s become a fan favorite throughout the series, and many viewers hope future seasons recapture its style with more realistic special effects. Even so, it’s still considered one of the strongest and most popular Zords ever.
2. The Red Lion Wildzord Marks the Pinnacle the Series Continues to Strive Towards
Power Rangers: Wildforce
Image via Hasbro The Red Lion Wildzord is unique because it’s essentially a living creature. Before teaming up, the Red Wild Force Ranger has to earn its trust. However, once they begin working together, they become one of the most memorable and effective partnerships in Power Rangers lore. Fans often rank the Red Lion Wildzord among the strongest Zords ever, and it frequently reappears in later seasons when Rangers gain access to past powers.
The Red Lion WildZord’s return in Super Megaforce really highlights how beloved it is. The show aimed to please longtime fans, and bringing back the Zord so prominently proves its enduring popularity. Its reappearance also suggests the Lion Zord is more adaptable than we originally thought. Had the Wild Force Rangers unlocked its full capabilities, they could have been an incredibly powerful team.
1. Tommy Oliver’s Dragonzord is One of the Coolest in the Original Series
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers
Image via Hasbro The arrival of the Green Ranger was a huge moment for the show, instantly making him a popular and intimidating villain. Fans will always remember when Tommy Oliver first called upon the mighty Dragonzord. While technically a dragon, the Dragonzord’s design was clearly inspired by the famous Japanese monster, Godzilla. Even now, it’s considered one of the strongest and most recognizable Zords in the Power Rangers universe.
Tommy Oliver is widely considered the most powerful Power Ranger, and his main Zord reflects that strength. While it’s not very fast, the Zord hits incredibly hard. Its power level is comparable to that of Godzilla. Despite not looking particularly dragon-like, it’s still as strong as everyone says.
