Developer Unknown Worlds, together with Publisher Krafton, has unveiled Subnautica 2, which serves as a follow-up to the open-water survival series. The game is scheduled for release in 2025 initially on PC and Xbox Series X|S platforms in Early Access form.

Additionally, along with the initial details from the press release, we were given a sneak peek of the game through its teaser video.

Krafton announces that Subnautica 2 will delve into a completely novel alien ocean landscape teeming with diverse ecosystems, peculiar creatures, and concealed enigmas. For devoted series enthusiasts, Unknown Worlds is broadening the elements that made the games captivating by introducing fresh biomes, ranging from colossal underwater cliffs to verdant coral fields, all brimming with unique wildlife and concealed puzzles.

Will Subnautica 2 Feature Multiplayer?

Krafton has announced through their press release that Subnautica 2 is set to unveil a multiplayer co-op mode. According to the publisher, this new feature promises an exciting twist on the adventure experience. Up to four players will now have the opportunity to jointly traverse the expansive underwater world, working together to create tools, construct bases, and confront the perils that lie ahead.

Players living deep beneath the ocean surface, currently engaged with an Early Access version of Subnautica 2, have a unique opportunity to impact its future, as stated by Unknown Worlds. Their input will act as a compass for the development team, helping them steer decisions on various aspects such as underwater landscapes, crafting narratives, and much more, as the game continues to grow and transform.

Initially, Subnautica debuted on PS4, Xbox One, and PC platforms back in 2018. This was succeeded by a spin-off game titled Subnautica: Below Zero, launched in 2021. Since then, the series has been quiet until now. Regarding the original Subnautica, our review noted that it could benefit from some additional polishing to smooth out performance issues, making it a strong competitor within the survival genre.
