PlayStation Plus has had its ups and downs, but recently it hasn’t been consistently great. The free games offered to Essential subscribers in January and February weren’t very popular with many players. Some focused on very specific interests – like flight combat in Ace Combat 7 or the family game Epic Mickey: Rebrushed – while others, such as the boxing game Undisputed, received poor reviews. This weak start to the year, combined with the consistently underwhelming PS Plus Premium service, has created a difficult period for PlayStation Plus overall, with the Extra tier often being the only bright spot.
PlayStation Plus Extra continues to be the strongest part of the PS Plus service, consistently offering great games each month. While the base and Premium tiers haven’t been as impressive recently, Extra reliably delivers with at least two major game additions, plus a selection of smaller, independent titles for players who enjoy discovering hidden gems. The February 2026 lineup looks promising, but it’s becoming clear that the other PS Plus tiers need to step up and share the load.
PlayStation Plus Extra costs $15 per month or $135 per year. The Essential plan is more affordable at $10 a month or $80 a year, and the most comprehensive Premium plan costs $18 monthly or $160 annually.

This month’s biggest addition to PlayStation Plus Extra is definitely Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. It’s a fantastic game that really showcases the power of the PS5, with amazing web-swinging, two playable heroes each with their own abilities, and a stunning recreation of New York City. Plus, now you can play the entire Marvel’s Spider-Man series through PS Plus Extra! If you’re excited for Marvel’s Wolverine, this is a great way to experience all of Insomniac’s Marvel games, enjoy the extra content, collect all the awesome suits, and master the combat. Adding a Game of the Year nominee and a recent major exclusive like this is a real benefit for PS Plus Extra subscribers, and it proves that the service consistently offers excellent value.

In February, PS Plus Extra subscribers will have access to more than just Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Neva and Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown are also being added. Neva is a visually stunning puzzle-platformer from the creators of Gris, telling a moving story about a woman and her wolf companion as they journey through a world on the brink of collapse. It currently has an 87 on Metacritic – just slightly lower than Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s 90 – making it another highly-rated game for subscribers. Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown focuses on online racing in a beautiful open world, though it’s received mixed reviews. While some find the progression slow and the cars uninspired, its multiplayer aspect offers a different experience alongside the story-driven games.
The announcement of Neva, a prologue to the main game, during February’s State of Play makes the game’s recent addition to PlayStation Plus Extra especially fitting.
February 2026’s PlayStation Plus Extra lineup offers a diverse range of games. Fans can enjoy a unique take on the Monster Hunter series with the charming Monster Hunter Stories and Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin. There’s also the atmospheric story of Season: A Letter to the Future, the cooking-focused Venba, and the action-packed adventure Echoes of the End: Enhanced Edition. Sports fans will appreciate Rugby 25, and the combination of the big-budget Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 alongside the engaging story of Neva truly highlights the quality of the Extra service.
PS Plus Extra 2026 Should Be The Example, Not The Exception

Those who pay for the Premium tier are frustrated by the lack of value, especially considering how many classic PlayStation games could be added – with only Wall-E being added in February, it feels like a strange pick. Even Essential subscribers are feeling neglected, as they haven’t had a truly exciting month in a while and are worried about PS4 games no longer being included. While PS Plus Extra is a strong offering, it’s time for the other subscription levels to step up and become equally appealing on their own.
