Dragon Ball: 7 Characters With The Highest Power Levels in the Frieza Saga

The introduction of power levels fundamentally changed Dragon Ball, creating a system for ranking fighters based on numbers that indicated their strength. Even though they became a major part of the series, official power levels aren’t available for every character.

I’ve been following the power levels of characters throughout the Dragon Ball series, and it’s interesting how many remain officially unknown. While the video games try to quantify things, the most reliable information comes from the manga itself – things like official guidebooks, chapter notes, and special pamphlets. But even with all that, it’s still limited. Considering what we do know about the Frieza Saga, specifically on Namek, I’ve put together a list of the characters with the highest confirmed power levels, focusing on their strongest forms.

Nail – 42,000

It’s unclear exactly how powerful Piccolo was on Namek, both before and after merging with Nail. While Piccolo would have become stronger after the fusion, Nail was already a capable fighter, even though he wasn’t as strong as Frieza in his initial form.

Nail was the most powerful Namekian on Planet Namek and their best chance against Frieza’s army. While incredibly strong – with a power level of 42,000 – he could easily defeat opponents like Cui, Zarbon, and Dodoria, he wasn’t strong enough to beat Frieza’s top soldiers, such as Captain Ginyu or Frieza himself.

Krillin – 75,000

Krillin is often the target of jokes, but he’s remarkably strong – arguably the strongest fully human character in the series. He proved his worth during the Namek saga, battling opponents like Guido and Recoome, although those fights also highlighted his limits.

Throughout the Namek Saga, Krillin steadily improved his strength, eventually reaching a power level of 75,000 according to V-Jump. While still significantly weaker than Frieza, Krillin contributed to the fight on Namek and returned to Earth a more powerful fighter thanks to everything he’d been through.

Captain Ginyu – 120,000

Captain Ginyu was one of Frieza’s most powerful soldiers and posed a huge threat on Namek. Before facing Frieza himself, he was the strongest enemy the Z-Fighters had ever battled, and his ability to switch bodies made him incredibly unpredictable and hard to defeat.

Ginyu successfully switched bodies with Goku, but he couldn’t use Goku’s power as effectively as Goku himself. When outside of a host body, Ginyu was incredibly strong, easily surpassing fighters like Gohan, Krillin, and even Vegeta. He was a formidable opponent, but ultimately lost because he was too confident and didn’t think things through.

Gohan – 200,000

The fight against Frieza was a turning point for Gohan’s growth as a warrior. While Piccolo’s earlier training laid the foundation, Gohan truly developed his skills during the battle on Namek.

Gohan began with a modest power level of 1,500, but he grew incredibly strong throughout the saga. Training with Guru and battling various opponents helped him unlock his hidden potential. By the end, Gohan’s power reached approximately 200,000, which wasn’t enough to beat Frieza in his initial form, but it did establish him as one of Namek’s most powerful warriors.

Vegeta – 250,000

During the battle with Frieza, Vegeta teamed up with the Z-Fighters for the first time, and this helped him become much stronger than he’d been when he first arrived on Earth. While he wasn’t yet strong enough to beat Frieza himself or avenge his destroyed planet, Vegeta did manage to defeat Frieza’s strongest soldiers on Namek – opponents who used to be a serious challenge for him.

By the end of the Saiyan Saga, Vegeta’s power level reached about 18,000, and it continued to grow, hitting around 24,000 when he arrived on Namek. The intense battles and near-death experiences on Namek pushed him to become more than ten times stronger. By the time the Androids appeared, Vegeta had become Earth’s second most powerful warrior, surpassed only by Goku.

Frieza (Final Form 100%) – 120,000,000

Frieza caused immense destruction on Namek, easily defeating almost everyone until Goku appeared. Even after Goku arrived, Frieza proved to be an incredibly powerful opponent and presented the biggest fight Goku had ever faced.

Frieza initially appeared with a power level of 530,000, but quickly demonstrated the increasingly extreme power levels seen in the series. His final, full-power form reached an incredible 120,000,000. Without Goku’s transformation into a Super Saiyan and his ability to surpass his own limits, Frieza would have easily won the fight.

Super Saiyan Goku – 150,000,000

When Goku reached Namek, he was already a very powerful fighter, surpassing most of the planet’s inhabitants. He started with a power level of about 90,000, and briefly doubled that against Captain Ginyu using the Kaio-ken technique. After regaining his body and healing, his power level soared to an impressive 3,000,000.

Becoming a Super Saiyan boosted Goku’s power to 150,000,000, making him significantly stronger than even the fully powered Frieza, whose power level was 100,000,000. After transforming, Goku effortlessly deflected Frieza’s attacks and completely dominated the fight, showing no real difficulty.
