Game Science is remarkably skilled at revealing a lot through subtle details. When they announced the next installment of Black Myth: Wukong, the 2024 Game of the Year nominee, at Gamescom last year, the brief reveal was captivating. We saw two figures running for cover as massive demons carrying an enormous sword walked by, followed by Zhong Kui riding a stunningly realistic tiger – one of the most impressive we’ve ever seen in a game.
Okay, so the latest from Game Science about Black Myth: Zhong Kui? Honestly, they didn’t even need to say much! The new footage speaks for itself – this game is looking incredible. As a fan, I’m seriously hyped, and it feels like their next game is going to be even better than the first. They’re really hitting it out of the park!
Game Science Cooks Up A Storm To Promote Black Myth: Zhong Kui
For the past several years, GameScience has marked Chinese New Year with a special video. This year, they truly outdid themselves with a breathtaking 6-minute showcase created using the engine for their upcoming game, Black Myth: Zhong Kui. The video focused on incredibly detailed cooking scenes, rendered with such realism that it was often hard to believe it wasn’t a live-action film.
The trailer opens with striking imagery – a fish with a dragon’s head cleanly cut in two, and a large bulb revealing a hidden creature. We’re then introduced to a woman in a kitchen, carefully preparing an elaborate soup with the help of her assistants. The ingredients are unusual, even fantastical, including meat from Yaoguai – creatures rooted in Chinese legends. The woman’s precise movements and determined expression suggest the dedication and care Game Science is putting into their new game, hinting at something truly captivating.
The recent glimpse of Black Myth: Zhong Kui surprised many who were hoping for a more substantial update from Game Science. While the preview didn’t show any gameplay or combat, fans haven’t been upset by this unusual marketing strategy. They recognize that the developers, much like a skilled chef, are being very deliberate and careful in how they reveal information about the game.
It’s All In The Execution

While Black Myth: Wukong boasted stunning graphics and was a visual highlight of 2024, a six-minute preview of Zhong Kui convinced me it will elevate the series even further. The upcoming game promises exciting, fluid combat, impressive detail, and compelling characters, and the preview offered a great look at what players can expect.
What immediately impressed me was how realistically the game showed the impact of attacks. We didn’t see overly dramatic, effortless kills, but we did see incredibly detailed reactions to even light cuts – the way different materials moved and responded under the blade. Thinking about combat, and the many challenging bosses and enemies we’ll likely face, it makes you wonder how Zhong Kui’s weapons will actually change his opponents. It wouldn’t be surprising if some enemies end up looking as mangled as the ‘Feng’ – essentially just a mass of flesh with eyes.
What really stood out wasn’t the action itself, but the incredible attention to detail. I’ve never seen such realistic movement in a game character’s hands – every tendon, muscle, and facial expression felt perfect. These small touches made all the difference, and Game Science has captivated the gaming world, all thanks to something as simple as… soup.
Game Science’s recent cooking video, which surprisingly hinted at darker themes, offered a first look at the atmosphere of Black Myth: Zhong Kui. The video raised expectations for the game significantly, and it’s clear the developers have a lot of faith in their work, much like the confident chef featured in the video.
