My Hero Academia: The Strongest Characters Bakugo Can Defeat, Ranked

Katsuki Bakugo from My Hero Academia is even more focused on fighting than other strong characters like Deku and Shoto. This is because his Quirk, Explosion, is designed purely for attack and destruction, and he has a naturally aggressive personality. As a result, Bakugo has won many notable battles against both classmates and villains, including four victories at the UA Sports Festival and a win against All For One.

Fans of My Hero Academia are excited to see what challenges Bakugo will face next. He’s already defeated strong opponents like Shoto, Fumikage, and Serpenters, and now they’re anticipating new battles. This version of Bakugo is particularly powerful – he’s mastered his abilities and fights for the right reasons, not just to prove himself better than Deku. He’s nearly unbeatable, with only the strongest heroes like Prime All Might and Star and Stripe capable of defeating him. Everyone else is likely to fall before his explosive power.

Stain Won’t Win if Bakugo Stays in the Air While Fighting

Quirk: Bloodcurdle

Man, I still remember when Stain, the Hero Killer, was giving Class 1-A such a hard time! It was insane how close he came to winning that fight, even with Deku, Shoto, and Tenya all working together! The guy is just incredibly fast and sneaky, and his Quirk basically makes anyone vulnerable to his blades. Honestly, if he could catch Bakugo completely off guard, he might have a chance, but usually, Bakugo would totally dominate that fight.

If Bakugo were to fight Stain directly, he’d likely win if he used his strengths effectively. Stain excels in close quarters where it’s hard to avoid his blades, but Bakugo’s ability to fly gives him a significant advantage. From the air, Bakugo is safe from Stain’s attacks and can use his ranged powers to defeat him. This is why Stain is considered the weakest of the powerful My Hero Academia characters that Bakugo could realistically beat (though he never actually fought him in the anime).

Re-Destro’s Stress Levels Won’t Overcome Explosion’s Wrath

Quirk: Stress

Tomura Shigaraki defeated Re-Destro in their fight in Deika City, and it’s likely Bakugo would win in a similar battle. Both Bakugo and Re-Destro get more powerful the longer a fight lasts, as Re-Destro’s Quirk is fueled by stress and the danger of losing. While someone like Tomura could push Re-Destro to his peak strength by increasing his stress, even that wouldn’t ensure a win.

Okay, so Re-Destro was a seriously powerful villain as the leader of the Meta Liberation Army, but honestly, Tomura’s evolved Quirk just completely overwhelmed him. And I think Bakugo could take him down too! Even before Bakugo really unlocked everything with his Explosion Quirk, he’d have a good shot at beating Re-Destro. But now? It wouldn’t even be a contest. Bakugo can fly and keep his distance, just relentlessly bombarding Re-Destro with attacks until he’s totally exhausted and defeated. I can practically see Re-Destro collapsing in a pile of smoke!

Muscular is Tough, But Bakugo Can Break Through His Defenses

Quirk: Pump Up

Okay, so Muscular is a seriously intimidating villain, and honestly, it’s still a little unclear how tough he really is. Both times he’s been defeated, it felt like Deku only won because the story needed him to, not because he outmatched Muscular. The first fight really highlights this – Deku pulled off that insane 1,000,000% Smash, which, let’s be real, is a move that stretches the limits of what makes sense even in a world with superpowers! It felt like a total plot device, and honestly, within the rules of My Hero Academia‘s fights, it shouldn’t have been possible. If we’re being honest, Muscular should have won that fight, and that’s what makes him such a frightening opponent!

Even if Muscular is incredibly powerful, he doesn’t stand a chance against Bakugo’s fully realized Explosion Quirk. Muscular is a formidable opponent, despite losing in the past, but he simply can’t defeat Bakugo. Like others Bakugo has fought, Muscular can’t attack from a distance well enough to counter Bakugo’s aerial attacks. Bakugo will relentlessly break down Muscular’s defenses with explosions, ultimately finishing him off with a powerful Howitzer Impact.

Dabi Will Tear Himself Apart Before He Can Finish Off Bakugo

Quirk: Blueflame

Image via Bones.

Dabi, his hero brother, and father all fight using fire, both up close and from a distance. However, even this shared fighting style might not be enough to beat Katsuki Bakugo. While Dabi’s powerful flames are comparable to Bakugo’s, winning this fight requires more than just strong Quirks. Dabi isn’t as mobile as Bakugo, despite both of them using their heat-based abilities to propel themselves like jets.

Dabi could be a real threat, but his biggest problem is how fragile he is. His fire-based abilities, while powerful, actually harm him over time, which explains why he looks so heavily scarred and stitched together – he’s constantly falling apart. He’s likely to overexert himself trying to win against someone like Bakugo, and that recklessness will probably be his downfall.

Overhaul is Stronger on the Ground, But Bakugo Can Fly

Quirk: Overhaul

Image via studio Bones.

Overhaul is a frightening villain with a powerful Quirk of the same name. He was the main antagonist of the Shie Hassaikai Arc, defeating strong heroes like Mirio Togata and Sir Nighteye before Deku ultimately defeated him. However, even Deku needed a dangerous assist from Eri’s Rewind Quirk to fully heal and use One For All at full power. Bakugo won’t have that option, meaning he’ll have to rely solely on his own abilities – and it will be a very close fight.

Similar to the villain Stain, Overhaul is much more powerful when the environment suits his abilities. He prefers fighting on the ground or inside buildings, where he can use his Quirk to completely change the area, creating dangerous obstacles like spikes and walls. While Bakugo might be able to withstand a fight in those conditions, he has a much better chance of winning outside. By staying airborne with his Quirk, Bakugo can evade most of Overhaul’s attacks and ultimately defeat him with his powerful explosions.

Endeavor May Be the #1 Hero, Yet He Cannot Outlast Bakugo

Quirk: Hellflame

Image via studio Bones.

For a long time, Bakugo wasn’t as powerful in battle as the most experienced pro heroes like All Might, Endeavor, Best Jeanist, and Star and Stripe. They had years of practice and some had Quirks even stronger than his Explosion. However, by the end of My Hero Academia, Bakugo improved so much that he became stronger than some of them, including Endeavor, after fully mastering his own Quirk.

A fight between Bakugo and Endeavor would be incredibly difficult, and Endeavor would probably win. However, if Bakugo can avoid major errors and hold out long enough, he has a good chance of winning. Bakugo can exploit Endeavor’s weakness – the same one his son Dabi has – which is overheating when using his fire powers. While Endeavor is more cautious than Dabi and avoids pushing himself too far, Bakugo can still take advantage of this vulnerability.

Captain Celebrity is a Quirky Superman Who Could Almost Defeat Bakugo

Quirk: Flight

Image via studio Bones.

Captain Celebrity is likely the strongest character in My Hero Academia that Bakugo could realistically beat under the right circumstances. Before Star and Stripe rose to the top, Captain Celebrity was the number one hero in America, and it’s clear why. He’s not just popular with fans; he’s incredibly powerful, fighting in a style similar to Superman. He can fly, and also possesses amazing strength and can withstand a lot of damage. He’s strong enough to effortlessly lift a huge cruise ship and still pose for the cameras.

This fight will be incredibly close, and Bakugo will be tested to his absolute limit. A single mistake could cost him the match, but if he plays strategically, he has a real chance of winning. While Bakugo doesn’t have as much experience as Captain Celebrity, his current strength is comparable. If Captain Celebrity, who is usually overconfident, underestimates Bakugo, it could give Bakugo the opportunity he needs to strike a decisive blow.
