As a seasoned survivor of the post-apocalyptic wasteland that is Once Human, I can confidently say that the latest update, “The Way of Winter,” has sent chills down my spine… and not just from the biting cold! This new expansion offers a fresh layer of challenge, as I navigate through the icy climes of Nalcott, battling frostbite and lava burns in equal measure.
The chilly season has arrived in Once Human, with NetEase launching the massive update titled “Once Human: Winter’s Path.” This update offers an expansive content release, revealing the previously unexplored icy regions of the map. The action unfolds within the snow-capped peaks of Nalcott, introducing fresh adversaries, artifacts, occurrences, and a survival system entirely unique to this update.
Beyond fretting over your next meal, maintaining sanity, and staying dry, you’ll now have to ensure that you’re adequately dressed for the harsh winds and heavy snowfall. Interestingly, both the time of day and available shelter can influence the temperature, as can the items you carry. However, we don’t recommend carrying a lit molotov cocktail in such conditions, but it could be an extreme measure when your fingers are numb with cold.
It’s not just cold, though. Lava flow in certain areas will tip you the other way, and you’ll need to craft special new gear and food that can resist these extremes of temperature. Falling foul of the weather can make your character ill, or otherwise restrict your movement. But it’s worth the risk, too, as you can harvest special crops such as Spiketomatoes, Sunny Ginger, and Polar Peppers, all of which can be added to your cooking dishes.
Additionally, you’re capable of assembling Thermal Towers. This feature enables you and your expanded team to erect shelters and maintain warmth collectively. However, it’s essential to safeguard these structures since they are frequently targeted by monstrous creatures known as Chaosweavers.
The newly introduced map is quite expansive, boasting numerous uncharted strongholds and settlements en route to Ember Strand. As always, these locations will be teeming with adversaries, riches, and valuable loot. Fresh opponents (as well as potential allies) have emerged, such as the elusive “Secret Servitors” and a formidable threat called the Vultures, a ruthless private army.
Beyond the current offerings, starting from October 17 and lasting until Halloween, you’ll receive eerie new cosmetics as part of your daily sign-up rewards. Plus, there’s additional excitement during Pumpkin Season on Twitch, with temporary drops available for a limited time over the next few weeks.
