Sasuke Uchiha is a central figure in the Naruto series, driving much of the story alongside Naruto Uzumaki. He’s a complex character who initially appears as a villain but ultimately becomes a hero, which is why fans are so invested in him and eager to see what happens with him in the Boruto series.
Sasuke’s future is uncertain in the Boruto series, and the authors, Ikemoto and Kishimoto, are keeping fans guessing. He’s currently unable to fight, but the story subtly reveals what will ultimately happen to him.
Sasuke Uchiha Was Turned Into A Tree In Boruto
Sasuke Lost to Code During The Timeskip
Sasuke Uchiha faced a lot of challenges throughout the Boruto series. Despite being considered one of the world’s strongest ninja, he often found himself overpowered by his opponents. He needed to team up with Naruto to fight Momoshiki Otsutsuki, and later, was easily defeated by Jigen. Against Isshiki, Sasuke proved ineffective and quickly lost his Rinnegan. After losing his Rinnegan, Sasuke wasn’t a major player in most of the key battles. His most important contribution came at the end, when he left with Boruto to train him and protect him from Konoha, who believed Boruto had betrayed them by killing the Seventh Hokage.
During a period of training, Sasuke Uchiha and his student, Boruto Uzumaki, both grew significantly stronger. They eventually encountered Code and his Claw Grimes, and though Sasuke fought bravely, he was bitten and tragically transformed into a tree. He remains in this state, and Boruto has promised to find a way to restore him. Currently, Sasuke’s life is uncertain, as he is being used as an energy source by Shinju Hidari. He won’t be able to return to the story until Hidari is defeated, meaning his return is still a ways off.
Sasuke Will Return Before Boruto Vs Kawaki Begins
Sasuke Could Make A Comeback Soon
When the Boruto series started, the preview of a destroyed ninja world led many to believe Sasuke Uchiha might die. Fortunately, the story has now confirmed that Sasuke will survive. While he’s been turned into a tree and is currently incapacitated, this means he’s avoided death, which would have been a tragic end for his character.
I think Sasuke really needs to get back into the fight soon if he wants to rebuild his image. Since his return feels connected to taking down Shinju Hidari, it shouldn’t happen right at the very end of the series like Naruto’s did. It would make more sense if Sasuke came back before the big final battle of the Boruto story – you know, the intense fight between the brothers on top of the broken Hokage faces, which they hinted at way back in the beginning.
Before Boruto and Kawaki can fight, the threat of the Shinju needs to be resolved. This means Hidari will have fallen, and Sasuke Uchiha will be back in the story. While we don’t know exactly when this will happen, Sasuke’s return will definitely occur before Boruto and Kawaki’s battle.
What Role Will Sasuke Play After His Return In Boruto?
Once Hidari is defeated, Sasuke Uchiha is expected to come back into the action. After his return, the authors, Kishimoto and Ikemoto, will probably give him a significant part in the story, considering how long he’s been away. It’s likely Sasuke will be leading the fight against the remaining threats.
If Jura is still alive, Sasuke will undoubtedly face him. If a different threat, like an Otsutsuki, emerges, Sasuke will also step up to protect those he cares about. Regardless of the enemy, Sasuke is likely to gain recognition upon his return, boosting his popularity with fans.
Sasuke Uchiha Will Be Replaced By Boruto Uzumaki At The End Of Boruto
Boruto Is Sasuke’s Successor
It’s already been hinted that Sasuke Uchiha will be back before the end of the Boruto series, but fans shouldn’t expect him to be the main focus. This story centers on Boruto Uzumaki and his generation, so the creators will likely prioritize their development. Sasuke’s own story is complete – he’s made amends for his past actions, including his role in the Fourth Great Ninja War, and has repeatedly saved the world. He’s also successfully trained a new generation of powerful ninjas like Sarada and Boruto, making it clear his time as a world protector is over.
Sasuke is preparing Boruto Uzumaki, his student, to take over his role of secretly protecting the village – and with Boruto being so much like him, it’s clear he’ll be well-equipped for the job. At the same time, Sasuke’s daughter, Sarada Uchiha, is destined to become the Hokage and lead the village openly. This will finally allow Sasuke to retire and enjoy some much-needed rest.
Given everything Sasuke has experienced in both the Boruto series and throughout his life, he’s earned a chance to relax and enjoy everyday life. It would be a satisfying conclusion to his story if he retired from being a ninja and focused on simpler pleasures, and fans would likely appreciate that. However, with the Boruto manga still ongoing, that moment is likely quite a ways off.
Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 31 will be released on February 19, 2026.
