Many couples look to popular co-op games for Valentine’s Day, but don’t be afraid to try something different! While games like Split Fiction and It Takes Two are great choices, you might be surprised by how fun something unexpected can be. With the recent popularity of the Fallout TV show, Fallout 76 is worth a look – it’s improved a lot since it first came out. Though a post-apocalyptic wasteland might not sound romantic, it could be a surprisingly memorable experience for you and your partner.
So, I finally emerged from the vault in Fallout 76, and Appalachia is just… huge! I can basically do whatever I want – build my own base (CAMP), start a bunch of quests, or just wander off and see what I stumble across. It’s pretty much the classic Bethesda experience, but now I can play it with friends! My partner and I both love the Fallout universe, so tackling the wasteland together is actually a lot of fun. Though, honestly, spending Valentine’s Day exploring a radioactive zone is a bit different than a romantic dinner, right?
Overlooked Games Perfect for Playing Together on Valentine’s Day

- Fallout 76
- Until Dawn (and The Dark Pictures)
- Blue Prince
- Hytale
- Haven
If you and your partner enjoy a bit of suspense, horror games like Until Dawn and The Dark Pictures are great choices. Until Dawn is especially fun for first-time players, as making tough decisions together can add to the excitement. The game even focuses on relationships being tested under pressure! It’s also a manageable length for a weekend playthrough. For couples who love solving puzzles as a team, Blue Prince offers a complex mystery and ever-changing environments. If building things together is more your style, Hytale is a sandbox survival game where you can create and explore worlds. Finally, Haven provides a uniquely romantic experience, letting you and your partner survive on a new planet and build a close connection between the characters through sweet, intimate moments.

What makes Fallout 76 a surprisingly good game to play on Valentine’s Day is how its gameplay brings couples together. Like all Fallout games, the world of Appalachia is dangerous and unpredictable, which encourages players to team up. Whether they’re fighting off giant creatures, clearing out enemy bases, or just gathering supplies to build their base, players need to work together, especially when they’re first starting out. While building a home in a post-apocalyptic wasteland might not seem romantic, sharing tasks and building a base together can actually feel cozy and domestic.
Until Dawn (and The Dark Pictures)
Unlike Fallout 76, Until Dawn doesn’t involve players working together directly with one person controlling the game. Instead, all players contribute to the choices. Supermassive Games expanded on this idea with the Movie Night mode in The Dark Pictures Anthology, letting players each control a different character throughout any of the four released stories.
Blue Prince

What’s special about this game is its relaxed pace – there’s no pressure from timers or fast-paced action. It’s perfect for couples looking for a calm and engaging Valentine’s Day activity involving observation, investigation, and classic puzzle-solving. While designed as a single-player experience, it’s really fun to play with a partner! One person can play while the other takes notes, then you can switch roles for each playthrough of the mansion.
Hytale

If you’ve liked games like Terraria or Valheim, Hytale is worth checking out, but keep in mind it’s still in early development.
Haven
Image via The Game Bakers Released in December 2020 by The Game Bakers, Haven is a role-playing game focused on conversations, exploring a new world, and turn-based battles. Though the gameplay isn’t overly complicated, the game’s appeal comes from its two main characters, Kay and Yu, and their journey to fix their ship on the alien planet Source. Players will spend time gathering materials, cooking meals, working together in combat, and making choices as a couple.
Couples who love gaming will always find something to play. It’s less about finding a game about romance and more about simply choosing to play together, relaxing side-by-side and enjoying each other’s company for a few hours.
