Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 Reveals Final Patch Notes

Fans of Metal Gear Solid got a welcome surprise this weekend with the release of Patch 3.0.0 for Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1. This final update for the popular collection adds new graphical settings for players on all platforms.

Konami recently released a new update following a busy week. At the February 12 State of Play event, they showed off upcoming games planned for 2026 and beyond, including a look back at some of their classic franchises. Fans can expect a new Castlevania game in 2026, marking the first new installment in the series since 2014’s Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2. In addition to revisiting older titles, Konami announced they’re working on a new JRPG for the PS5 called Rev.Noir. The release date for Rev.Noir and whether it will be available on other platforms are currently unknown.

Metal Gear Solid Just Got a Facelift

Konami recently released a big update for the first Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1. Patch 3.0.0 adds new texture packs to improve the game’s graphics, and the options available depend on your platform. If you’re playing on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, or Steam, you can choose between High and Max Resolution packs. PS4 and Switch players have access to the Original and High Resolution packs. You can find these graphics settings in the game’s menu.

Fans of Metal Gear Solid can now experience this classic 1998 game with improved graphics thanks to the High Resolution and Max Resolution texture packs. Konami showcased the visual upgrades by comparing the original graphics to those with the Max Resolution pack applied. Players on all platforms except Nintendo Switch can also customize the confirm and cancel buttons, and Steam users on PC can adjust their keyboard and mouse controls.

The recent 3.0.0 update brought significant improvements to Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty for Nintendo Switch owners, especially those with the new Switch 2 console. Players on Switch 2 can now choose an ‘Adjusted Mode’ that renders the game at an enhanced 1080p resolution. This results in clearer and more detailed textures throughout the game, including during cutscenes, thanks to improved internal resolution and upscaling techniques.

Metal Gear Solid 3 Looks Sharper In 4K

Good news for players of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Steam! A free downloadable texture pack is now available to improve the game’s graphics, allowing resolutions between 1080p and 4K. However, it does require extra storage space. While the pack only takes up 22GB on PlayStation 5 and Xbox consoles, PC players on Steam will need between 65 and 70GB. Konami suggests Steam players install the textures on a solid-state drive (SSD) and recommends having at least an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 graphics card. This means PC players might need to spend extra money on storage and hardware to enjoy the game with the improved textures.

The latest update for Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 includes new texture packs and fixes a problem that was preventing some in-game audio from playing on the Nintendo Switch. Several other small issues were also resolved, though the details haven’t been specified. Overall, this update allows players to enjoy classic Metal Gear stories with improved graphics.
