Corsair is updating the packaging of its Vengeance RAM kits to help customers avoid scams. This change will make it simpler to identify genuine Corsair RAM before purchase, protecting buyers from fraudulent products.

They also create gaming gear such as keyboards, mice, and headsets that work with both computers and consoles. Corsair Vengeance RAM Kits Have a New Look
As a PC builder, I’ve been hearing a lot about RAM scams lately, and it’s kinda scary. Apparently, thieves were swapping out real RAM for cheaper stuff, hiding it in Corsair’s old packaging. With RAM prices going crazy because of the DRAM shortage, Corsair decided to do something about it. They’ve switched from those yellow boxes to clear plastic containers with a yellow strap – they’re calling it a ‘temper-evident belly label’ because it rips if someone tries to open it. Now, when you buy a Corsair Vengeance DDR5 kit, you can actually see the RAM inside and check the specs right through the packaging. Plus, they’re making the new containers with recycled plastic, which is cool to see.

Starting in January 2026, Corsair began updating its packaging after discovering that its decorative lighting kits were being falsely sold online as actual RAM. This change affects all of Corsair’s Vengeance DDR5 RAM, although some existing kits may still be in the old packaging. Corsair plans to add a tamper-proof seal to the boxes in a future update. Corsair isn’t the only company taking steps to protect its RAM from theft. Costco recently started removing RAM kits from its display computers after reports of stolen items, but customers can still buy complete PCs with RAM included, depending on what’s in stock at each store.
The RAM Crisis Still Looms Large
The shortage of RAM is expected to continue beyond 2026. This is because companies like OpenAI and Google are heavily investing in AI and need a lot of RAM for their servers. To make things worse, manufacturers like Micron have stopped making RAM for everyday consumers, and others, such as SK Hynix and Samsung, are prioritizing RAM for AI servers instead. This has driven up prices significantly, with DDR5 and DDR4 RAM kits now costing over $400. Even popular brands like Corsair are affected, with a basic 2×16 GB DDR5 kit currently selling for $423.99, despite updated packaging.
The ongoing shortage of DRAM memory is now causing prices for gaming consoles to go up. Sony increased the price of the PS5 in 2025 because of US tariffs, but they believe they have enough RAM to avoid further price increases through 2026. Nintendo has also stated that the Switch 2 will stay at its current price of $450, despite the component shortage. However, since the cost of parts is still changing, it’s unclear how companies will handle the situation long-term.
