The multiplayer mode, Legends, is coming to Ghost of Yotei on March 10, 2026 – over five months after the game first launched. Revealed at the February 12, 2026 State of Play, Legends expands on the gameplay and atmosphere of the popular Legends mode from Ghost of Tsushima. Like the original, it will be available as a free download for anyone who already owns the game and promises to add many hours of new content for players to enjoy.
While building on the foundation of the original Legends mode, Ghost of Yotei doesn’t just rehash old content or add a simple coat of paint. It significantly expands and improves the formula, potentially offering a more robust experience than the first game. With unique themes, enemies, and ways to play, plus new lobby features and better graphics, Ghost of Yotei‘s Legends mode feels like a true upgrade, not just a continuation.
Ghost of Yotei: Legends Gives Tsushima’s Iteration an Upgrade
How Ghost of Yotei: Legends Compares to Tsushima: Legends
- FREE FOR OWNERS – Both Ghost of Tsushima Legends and Ghost of Yotei Legends are free cooperative multiplayer modes added as no-charge DLC for base game owners.
- CO-OP FOCUS RETURNS – Each mode centers on online co-op play with friends rather than the solo campaign experience.
- GAME MODES SHARED – Both include two-player story missions and four-player survival matches as core multiplayer activities.
- SUPERNATURAL THEMES – Both Legends iterations lean into mythic, supernatural enemies and scenarios distinct from the main game’s narrative.
- CLASS SYSTEM UPGRADE – Ghost of Yotei Legends introduces four distinct classes tied to the base game’s broader combat systems, expanding on the roles seen in Tsushima‘s original lineup.
- ENEMY DESIGN SCALE – Ghost of Yotei Legends features giant demonic versions of the Yotei Six, a narrative tie-in absent from Tsushima‘s generic mythic foes.
- NEW LOBBY FEATURES – Ghost of Yotei Legends includes a social lobby with combat practice and mini-games, adding activities outside main missions not typically highlighted in Tsushima‘s mode.
- IMPROVED VISUALS – Because Ghost of Yotei runs on newer tech and hardware, its Legends mode benefits from updated visual fidelity compared with the original Legends era.
- PROGRESSION EMPHASIS – Ghost of Yotei Legends ties gear, cosmetics, and progression to the sequel’s expanded combat mechanics, offering potentially deeper replay incentives.
As a big fan of Ghost of Tsushima‘s Legends mode, I’m really excited about the Ghost of Yotei DLC! It’s awesome that it’s free for anyone who already owns Yotei, just like the original Legends was. And it’s definitely meant to be played with friends! Sucker Punch hasn’t said for sure, but I’m hoping we’ll be able to play through it alone, since you could do that with the first Legends. It sounds like the way you level up and the kinds of missions – Story, Survival, and Raids for different sized teams – will be pretty similar, which is great news!
As players progress and gain levels, they’ll receive rewards. They can also find powerful, unique weapons and equipment by finishing challenging missions.
Ghost of Yotei: Legends Has Some Distinct Differences
While building on the existing Legends mode, the new DLC for Ghost of Tsushima – focusing on the Yotei Six – offers a different experience. Previous Legends content explored general Japanese folklore, but this DLC directly connects to the story of Ghost of Yotei. This should feel like a continuation of the main game’s narrative, making it a must-play for anyone invested in the sequel’s story.
A key difference between the Legends modes of Ghost of Yotei and Ghost of Tsushima lies in their classes. Ghost of Tsushima used typical roles like tank, damage dealer, and healer, while Ghost of Yotei’s classes – Samurai, Archer, Mercenary, and Shinobi – are designed around the sequel’s more diverse weapons. Each class can wield both a katana and a ranged weapon, but they also each have a unique focus on one of Ghost of Yotei’s specific weapons and fighting styles.

- SHINOBI – Kusarigama and a suite of stealth-focused skills.
The ‘Ghost of Yotei’ Legends DLC adds a new lobby where players can hone their skills, compete in Zeni Hajiki, or test their accuracy with Bamboo Strike to achieve the highest score. This is a completely new feature for Yotei, providing a relaxing space between missions and keeping players engaged. Plus, the enhanced graphics on PlayStation 5 make this version of ‘Ghost of Yotei’ stand out, giving players who enjoyed the original ‘Tsushima’ version a good reason to jump back in.
The biggest change in this version compared to the previous one is the bosses – we’re now using the Yotei Six, directly inspired by the story from Ghost of Yotei.
Ghost of Yotei Legends isn’t just a rehash of the original Tsushima version; it feels like a significant improvement. It keeps the core elements players loved – cooperative gameplay, varying difficulty levels, and a fantastical atmosphere – but builds upon them with its own unique story, combat mechanics, and updated technology. Focusing on the Yotei Six, improving character roles with the sequel’s new weapons, and adding social features that go beyond individual missions make this new version of the popular game mode feel both familiar and refreshingly different, making it a worthwhile experience.
