Steam players can now enjoy a free, new 8-player cooperative game inspired by Hotline Miami. Called Monday Meltdown, it’s the first game from developer NF Mynster and is quickly gaining popularity on Steam for its fast-paced, chaotic, and delightfully violent co-op gameplay with friends.
Steam offers a lot of free games for players. While games you can keep forever are less common, there are often free trial periods where you can play paid games without buying them. Beyond these promotions, Steam has a huge selection of permanently free-to-play games in every genre, so you can build a great gaming collection without spending much money. Steam is constantly adding new free games, especially with the rise of independent game development.
New Free Steam Co-Op Game Has Serious Hotline Miami Vibes
Developed by a single person, NF Mynster, Monday Meltdown launched on Steam on February 9th and is available to download for free. It’s a chaotic, top-down 2D game where up to eight players can team up to battle each other using a wide range of weapons and unlockable skins. The gameplay is intentionally over-the-top and violent, which might not appeal to everyone. The developer cites Hotline Miami as an inspiration, and the comparison is fitting – it essentially delivers the same fun, fast-paced action, but with cooperative multiplayer. With co-op games gaining popularity on Steam, Monday Meltdown is likely to attract a lot of players. And if you don’t have seven friends ready to join the mayhem, the game also includes bots, allowing you to play solo.

I’ve been following Monday Meltdown for a while now, and it’s amazing to finally see the full release! It was in Early Access for over two years, and the developers really used that time to make the game awesome with tons of updates. It’s so cool to see a project someone clearly cares about finally finished, and I’m really hoping they continue to support it with more content after launch.
Currently, Monday Meltdown has “Very Positive” reviews on Steam, with 96% of players giving it a thumbs up. Many reviews were written during the game’s Early Access phase, and players consistently praised how fast-paced and smooth the gameplay is. One player called it a “hidden gem,” but also noted that the game could benefit from a larger player base.
