Microsoft plans to remove Social Clubs from Xbox consoles in April 2026. This means gamers on Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S will no longer be able to access them through the Friends & Community Updates app. Because of this change, new Social Clubs can’t be created right now.
Xbox Social Clubs let players connect with each other based on the games they loved. These clubs, created by users, were spaces to share thoughts, screenshots, and more. People could join clubs for all sorts of communities, whether they wanted to find teammates for online games or get help with challenges. If you’d like to revisit Xbox Social Clubs, you’ll need to do so before they’re permanently closed in April.
Xbox Consoles Will Be Removing the Social Clubs Feature in April 2026

Xbox is removing Social Clubs because the company wants to concentrate on the social features players actually use the most. Social Clubs weren’t very popular, so Xbox has decided to stop supporting them. Instead, Xbox suggests players connect with friends using Xbox messaging, Discord, party chat, or the Looking for Group feature.

This update mainly affects Social Clubs created by users – those are being removed. Official Clubs run by game developers will remain available, allowing them to continue connecting with players. You won’t find these official Clubs in the usual Friends & Community Updates area; instead, they’ll be accessible directly on the page for each specific game.
Xbox Removing Social Clubs Comes at a Poor Time
Image via Discord Even though few people were using Xbox’s Social Club, its removal is happening at a tricky time. Discord recently announced plans for stricter age verification – requiring ID or face scans for some users – which caused a lot of upset. While Xbox Social Club wasn’t meant to replace Discord’s voice chat, it could have given players another place to share game-related art and screenshots. Discord has since explained that most users won’t need to verify their age this way, but the initial announcement led some people to look for alternatives, an opportunity Xbox could have taken advantage of with its Social Club feature.
Xbox is continuing to remove features from its consoles, with Social Clubs being the most recent. Over the past few years, several other popular apps and features have also been discontinued, such as:
- Upload Studio — Ended Support in 2020
- Avatar Editor App — Ended Support in January 2025
- Movies and TV Shows for Purchase — Ended Support in July 2025
Okay, so just because an Xbox app gets ‘retired’ doesn’t always mean it’s completely gone. I can still use my old Xbox 360 avatars in a few games, and I still have access to the movies and shows I bought before they stopped supporting that service. But honestly, seeing features slowly disappear over the last few years makes it pretty clear Xbox is trying to simplify things. They’re focusing on what people actually use and getting rid of the stuff that’s not as popular. Now, it looks like Social Clubs are going to be next on the list of apps that are basically just empty shells of what they used to be.
