Review: Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 22 Marks The Beginning Of The End

The Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo manga is nearing its conclusion, and the story is clearly entering its final arc. With Maru’s cursed technique now in play, Yuji Itadori is taking a central role as the story progresses. Meanwhile, the intense battle between Dabura and Mahoraga continues, suggesting a chaotic and impactful climax that will drastically change the lives of all sorcerers in Japan.

Throughout the Jujutsu Kaisen story, the initial aim was to eliminate the birth of Cursed Spirits. This core goal seemed to be lost as the main storyline progressed, but the sequel is now successfully addressing these issues and bringing everything together. Chapter 22 of JJK Modulo marks a turning point, essentially beginning the resolution of the franchise’s biggest plotline.

Yuji Battles Mahito In Shibuya Once Again In JJK Modulo Chapter 22

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 22 continued the story immediately after the previous chapter, with Yuji finding himself in a place between life and death. This is where all spirits pass on, and where fans last saw Mahito after Ryomen Sukuna’s defeat. Sukuna himself moved on with Uraume, but Mahito remained, seemingly waiting for Yuji. When Tsurugi briefly lost consciousness, he also encountered Mahito, hinting that a meeting between Yuji and Mahito was inevitable. The latest chapter finally showed how they would reconnect. Through Maru’s cursed technique, Yuji and Mahito were selected as the key players in a coming crisis that will drastically change the world of sorcery.

To please fans, Gege Akutami created another intense fight between Yuji Itadori and Mahito, echoing the action from the Shibuya arc. Mahito tried to defeat Yuji, but Yuji was simply too strong. Despite Mahito attempting to use his domain expansion, Yuji’s powerful abilities quickly overwhelmed him, easily defeating him and stripping him of his powers. It’s important to note that Maru’s plan heavily relies on Mahito’s Idle Transfiguration.

Maru and Yuji Plan to Eradicate Cursed Energy

The Biggest Plot Point In JJK Modulo

As we learned earlier in the story, Yuji and Maru’s plan aims to completely eliminate cursed spirits. According to Yuki Tsukumo in the original Jujutsu Kaisen story, there are only two possible ways to achieve this.

  • Humanity has to break free from cursed energy entirely, in which case no cursed energy would leak out and cursed spirits wouldn’t be born for the most part.
  • Everyone learns to become a sorcerer and optimizes cursed energy at all times. This would prevent leakage of energy, and as such, cursed spirits would cease to exist.

Although the second approach seemed more effective, Maru and Yuji have chosen to eliminate cursed energy from everyone in Japan. Their plan is straightforward: they need the Mul, a powerful source of cursed energy from the alien spaceship Naunax, and combine it with the vast amount of cursed energy Yuta has stored in his ring. Using this combination, Maru intends to perform Idle Transfiguration on the entire country simultaneously.

Because these two sources release an enormous amount of cursed energy, this technique could potentially affect an entire nation, changing the very nature of all people in Japan. By completely separating cursed energy from their bodies, individuals would be permanently free from the curse, and ultimately, no more cursed spirits would be created.

I wonder if I will still live if I lose cursed energy. — Yuji Itadori

Future Humans And Simurians Won’t Have Cursed Energy

In Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 22, Maru highlights a key difference between current and future generations of both sorcerers and Simurians. The plan is to eliminate the source of cursed energy from both groups to ensure fairness. This will drastically change both races, but those who already possess cursed techniques won’t be physically altered – changing their bodies would fundamentally change their lives. Therefore, existing sorcerers in Japan and Simurians with cursed energy will remain unchanged. Future generations of both humans and Simurians will be born without cursed energy, effectively stopping the large-scale creation of cursed spirits.

There Is More To Cursed Spirits Than Erasing Cursed Energy

Chapter 22 of Jujutsu Kaisen largely explained how Yuji and Maru plan to permanently eliminate cursed spirits. Yuji believes that by completely removing cursed energy, the world could finally achieve lasting peace. He’s willing to accept any consequences for this action, even continuing to live and face punishment. However, Yuji also points out that simply eliminating cursed energy won’t be enough to truly get rid of cursed spirits for good.

We have no plans to change existing sorcerers or Simurians, as doing so would drastically affect their way of life. — Maru

It might not be immediately clear, but this idea actually makes a lot of sense. If a sorcerer isn’t defeated with cursed energy, they can return as a dangerous spirit and continue to cause trouble. If all sorcerers were to disappear, dealing with the remaining cursed spirits would become a major challenge. Plus, there are also cursed spirits outside of Japan – though fewer in number – that could still pose a threat.

It’s becoming clear that permanently defeating cursed spirits involves more than just eliminating cursed energy from people in Simuria and Japan. The upcoming chapters of JJK Modulo will reveal the full explanation. Cursed energy is being completely removed, which would effectively end the current era of Jujutsu Kaisen by dismantling its core power system. This feels like a natural conclusion, as it addresses a major, long-standing issue the author introduced earlier in the story. Finally, Yuji Itadori is on track to fulfill the dream shared by Geto and Yuki.

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 23 will be released on February 22, 2026.
