Crimson Moon: Most Exciting Things Confirmed For The Action RPG

PlayStation’s first State of Play for the year was stacked with new releases and updates from some of the biggest upcoming games in the industry. There were big announcements like the God of War Trilogy Remake, updates on Death Stranding 2 for PC, and plenty of reveals for exciting titles across a range of genres, with one of the most interesting being Crimson Moon. The game is an action-adventure RPG set in a world of angels and gods, and is looking to bring a gritty and brutal spin to the space with a whole new setting and a bunch of creative mechanics and gameplay ideas.

The first trailer for Crimson Moon has generated a lot of excitement, and even though details are still limited, what’s been revealed so far is already impressive. Players are eager to see more of the game’s combat and world, and it’s clear there’s a lot to look forward to even before its release.

The Story

A Tale Of Angels And Demons

  • Reclaim a city from evil.
  • Push back the enemy with each victory.

Story and how it’s told are key parts of any role-playing game, and in Crimson Moon, the game world itself seems to be a major focus. Players will play as Nephilim – beings with both human and angel heritage – and their mission is to reclaim the city of Gildenarch from the dark forces that have taken over.

I’m so hyped for this game! Apparently, ages ago, these seriously terrifying demons called the Infernal Legion almost wiped out humanity. Luckily, the angels stepped in and sent them packing back into the shadows. Now, it looks like they’re back, and we – as players – get to lead the charge to reclaim our city, district by district, battling everything in our path to win!

Combat

Influences From Across The Gaming World

  • Brutal melee encounters.
  • Transformations that change the tide of a fight.

Honestly, the combat in Crimson Moon is what’s really got me hooked on this RPG. It just feels amazing – super impactful and satisfying. Plus, I have so much control in fights! I can parry attacks, transform into different forms, and just generally experiment with a ton of different abilities to take down enemies. It makes every encounter feel fresh and exciting.

The game focuses on creative, on-the-fly gameplay and encourages players to show off impressive skill combinations. While it shares elements with soulslike and hack-and-slash games, it has a unique feel and maintains a fast-paced, exciting experience.

The Enemies

From Zombies To Giants

  • Unique attacks and enemy executions.
  • Compositional changes between missions.

Enemies are essential to a good RPG experience. Without interesting battles, the game can quickly become dull. In Crimson Moon, players will face a wide variety of enemies – including vampires and ghouls – each with unique attacks and behaviors that require strategy and skill to overcome.

Battles come in many forms, ranging from swarms of weaker enemies to challenging, powerful foes that require skillful play. The game offers a good variety of enemies right away, giving players plenty of targets to defeat.

Co-Op

Escalating The Action

  • Dynamic difficulty scaling.
  • Different mission setups depending on player count.

The trailer for Crimson Moon looked great, but the game truly shines when you play with another person. You can play solo or team up with a friend, and the game cleverly adjusts the challenge to keep things exciting, even with two players.

The types of enemies you face will also vary in co-op mode. This means a player tackling a mission solo will have a different experience than two players teaming up. These changes make the game sound enjoyable whether you play alone or with friends, and they should also make you want to play it again and again, as each co-op mission will feel unique.

Mission-Based Gameplay

Reclaiming The Land, One Step At A Time

  • Different locations and settings.
  • New stages are unlocked, with a final battle at the end of each.

Action-adventure games come in many forms, and Crimson Moon is trying something unique. Instead of a vast open world, the game will feature a series of distinct missions throughout the city, each offering fresh challenges, enemies, and rewards.

Each win helps restore the city, and players will ultimately face a climactic battle against the vampire lord Solomon Moore to determine the victor. Even with its repeating mission structure, the game offers highly replayable and rewarding experiences, with plenty of new ways to play and challenges to conquer.

Upgrade Hub

Gearing Up For The Next Run

  • Permanent upgrades and gear unlocks.
  • Build customization.

Once you finish a run in Crimson Moon, you’ll return to the Church, which acts as the game’s central hub. Here, you can upgrade your character, interact with NPCs, and choose your next mission. The gameplay focuses on creating powerful builds and crafting new gear to overcome increasingly difficult enemies, giving the game a roguelite-style replayability that adds even more depth to its already large world.

As a player, I’m really excited about how much you can improve your fighting skills! You’re constantly unlocking new abilities and techniques that give you an edge in battle. And it doesn’t stop there – winning fights opens up even more cool stuff like modifiers and skills. Honestly, it adds so much replay value, I can see myself playing this for hours and hours, discovering everything it has to offer!
