So, I was hoping to swing around in a Spider-Man game on my Xbox, but it doesn’t look like that’s happening anytime soon. Insomniac, the team behind the game, basically said it’s staying on PlayStation for now. It’s kinda weird because both PlayStation and Xbox have been sharing some games lately – Microsoft even put Halo on PlayStation! But Sony isn’t doing the same with their Spider-Man games, which is a bummer.
As a huge Insomniac fan, I’m so excited about what they’ve got coming up! We’re finally getting the Wolverine game later this year, which I’ve been waiting for forever. And even though Insomniac hasn‘t officially said anything, the actor who voices Peter Parker let slip that Spider-Man 3 is already in development – awesome! There’s even talk of a Venom spin-off game eventually, which would be incredible. The only disappointing news? It doesn’t look like their games will be coming to Xbox anytime soon, which is a bummer for those of us with that console.
Insomniac Says Marvel’s Spider-Man on Xbox is ‘Not Likely’
A fan recently asked on Twitter if Marvel’s Spider-Man might come to Xbox, and Insomniac Games officially replied with a simple “not likely.” While that’s pretty clear, it makes sense why the question was asked. Sony has started releasing some of its games, like Helldivers 2 and Marathon, on Xbox, mirroring Xbox’s own move to release formerly exclusive titles. Things got even more interesting when Marvel Rivals included a Spider-Man skin, bringing a small piece of the PlayStation exclusive to an Xbox game. Although that skin alone didn’t mean much, combined with Sony’s recent Xbox releases, fans understandably started hoping for a full port.
Image via Insomniac Games As a big Spider-Man fan, I’ve been wondering about the possibility of the games coming to Xbox. While Insomniac did eventually release both the original Spider-Man, Miles Morales, and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on PC, it doesn’t automatically mean we’ll see it on Xbox. Sony’s been releasing some of their exclusives on PC – like God of War and The Last of Us – but they haven’t gone any further than that. It seems they’re happy to make a little extra money from PC gamers, but they still really want to keep the biggest franchises, like Spider-Man, primarily on PlayStation. So, while PC is happening, Xbox still feels like a long shot!
As a huge Spider-Man fan, I remember Insomniac saying a PC release would never happen, so I’m trying not to get my hopes up too high about Xbox, even though they’re saying it’s unlikely now. But honestly, it’s still possible! On the other hand, I get why Sony would want to keep Spider-Man exclusive. These games are massive sellers on PlayStation – some of the best they’ve ever had, especially here in the US. Keeping the games exclusive really encourages people to buy a PlayStation console. I wouldn’t be surprised if Sony plans to use the next Spider-Man game to boost sales for the PS6, just like they did with Miles Morales and the PS5.

While PlayStation and Xbox are releasing more games on multiple platforms, exclusive titles haven’t disappeared completely. PlayStation still has at least eight major games planned for release on PS5 in 2026 that won’t be available anywhere else, like Saros, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, and Marvel’s Wolverine. It’s unlikely these games will ever come to Xbox, though Sony has recently started releasing some exclusives on PC. This shows that console exclusives are still thriving, even if games are increasingly being released on more than one platform. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like Marvel’s Spider-Man will be coming to Xbox anytime soon.
