How to Beat Baba Nobuharu in Nioh 3

Many players find Baba Nobuharu to be a challenging early boss in Nioh 3. He fights differently than any other enemy you’ve faced so far, and it might take some time to learn his patterns. However, Baba Nobuharu is definitely beatable with the right strategy and approach. Here are some tips to help you defeat him in Nioh 3 without relying on exploits or summoning help.

Nioh 3 Baba Nobuharu Guide

Fighting Baba Nobuharu requires a lot of patience. He creates illusions to confuse you, making it hard to time your defenses and leaving you vulnerable to powerful attacks with his large axe. However, if you can ignore his illusions, he’s actually a relatively simple enemy to defeat.

To defeat Baba Nobuharu, carefully watch his movements before he attacks. Knowing which attack comes with each animation will help you respond correctly, even if he uses a deceptive illusion. You’ll need to learn his attack patterns, and it will likely take several tries to memorize them all.

Now, for some major tips on how to beat his boss more easily:

  • Pay attention to his left arm. When steam starts spewing out of it, that means he’s about to unleash a phantom image.
  • When in doubt, block. If you’re not sure what the boss is about to do next, just hold the block button so you don’t get smashed. If you run out of Ki, use your Guardian Spirit skill to break out of the winded animation.
  • Break his horn. Like most other Yokai bosses in Nioh 3, breaking Baba Nobuharu’s horn will make him stagger and cause massive Ki damage. Use this to knock him out of his Dark Realm phase faster. You can break his horn with jumping attacks, ranged attacks, and vertical hits.
  • Exhaust Baba Nobuharu’s Ki as quickly as possible. Use Martial Arts, Ninjutsu, and Guardian Spirit skills to deplete the boss’ stamina bar as fast as you can. This way, even if you can’t break his horn, you’ll be able to break his Dark Realm phase more easily.
  • Stay behind him. Baba Nobuharu will attacks that are easier to read when you’re attacking from behind. If you’re using Ninja Style, the bonus Backstab damage will do wonders for your DPS.
  • If you’re underleveled, farm the horse-riding yokai near the Shrine. Difficult bosses like Baba Nobuharu tend to have farmable enemies right outside their arenas. Use this opportunity to farm Amrita and Elixirs easily and quickly.
    • The Mirage Fortress mission where you fight Baba Nobuharu has a recommended level of 39, though the boss will still give you trouble even if you’re overleveled.
