As a long-time gamer with a soft spot for action-adventure titles and a hard drive full of games, I must admit that my heart skips a beat when I hear about a new release, especially one with an intriguing premise like Unknown 9: Awakening. However, upon learning about its lukewarm reception, I can’t help but feel a twinge of disappointment.

9 Unknown: Reflector Entertainment’s Awakening, distributed by Bandai Namco, has reached a maximum of 285 concurrent players on Steam.

The video game was initially rated 62 by Metacritic, which suggests mixed or average reviews, and it has a generally negative aggregate score on Steam. Additionally, many Steam users complain that they got the game for free through an AMD product giveaway.

Amazing, simply amazing! I ended up getting this game gratis with my new AMD GPU, but honestly, it’s left me feeling as though I should ask for my money back on the game itself.

Many users find the game appears quite outdated, with subpar visuals, frequent frame rate drops, and choppy performance, despite being played on state-of-the-art computers. Some buyers have also expressed disappointment over its high price tag of $50, considering it a rather compact game for that amount.

In this game, you play as Haroona, a Quaestor with an extraordinary gift: she can traverse into a strange dimension called the Fold, which intersects our own world. On her journey to uncover hidden strengths, Haroona will learn how to harness her rare link to the Fold, using its energies to influence our reality. However, such power doesn’t go unnoticed, and Haroona soon finds herself pursued by a secret group known as the Ascendants, who aim to exploit the Fold for the purpose of changing human history.

The game was released on October 18th, 2024, on platforms including PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, and personal computers (PC).
