Stellar Blade Devs Tease Potential Xbox and Switch Release

The popular 2024 PlayStation game, Stellar Blade, might be coming to other platforms soon. Released in April, the game quickly became a hit, selling over a million copies in its first two months – a great achievement for Shift Up, the smaller development team behind it and their first major console title. Shift Up has continued to update the game with downloadable content, including collaborations with other popular games like Nier: Automata and their previous creation, Goddess of Victory: Nikke.

The action game Stellar Blade became available on PC via Steam last June, in addition to PlayStation. This release proved very successful, selling over a million copies in its first three days and bringing the game’s total sales to over three million. Stellar Blade also attracted more players on PC simultaneously than any other PlayStation game currently available on the platform, surpassing titles like Ghost of Tsushima, God of War, and Marvel’s Spider-Man.

Stellar Blade May Be Coming to Xbox and Switch 2, More Sequel Details Incoming

Shift Up, the team behind the game Stellar Blade, recently shared in its financial report that it’s considering bringing the game to more platforms. The company highlighted Stellar Blade‘s continued success since its April 2024 release, with positive feedback from fans and strong sales. While they didn’t announce plans for Xbox or Nintendo Switch 2, Shift Up stated they are looking into expanding beyond PlayStation 5 and PC to reach a wider audience.

Shift Up shared that bringing Stellar Blade to more platforms will not only broaden its player base but also build anticipation for the next game. A sequel was announced last May, and while details have been scarce, the company confirmed development is moving forward steadily. They also hinted that more information about the sequel could be revealed before the end of the year.

It makes good business sense for Shift Up to release Stellar Blade on more platforms to keep the game popular. Although initially a PlayStation exclusive, the game isn’t deeply connected to the PlayStation system itself, so bringing it to other consoles and PC shouldn’t be difficult. Given its success on both PlayStation and PC, making Stellar Blade available everywhere will likely boost sales and allow even more people to play it.

Shift Up releasing Stellar Blade on platforms beyond PlayStation suggests they might launch Stellar Blade 2 on multiple platforms from the start. Originally, since Sony published the first game in 2024, it was expected to be a PlayStation exclusive. However, with the game doing well, Shift Up now has more influence over the sequel’s release. Bringing the first Stellar Blade to Xbox and potentially the Switch 2 could mean fans won’t have to wait years to play Stellar Blade 2 on those systems.
