Many Metroidvania games can feel confusing because it’s not always clear where to go next, but God of War: Sons of Sparta does a great job of guiding players. It clearly shows them where to go and what to do—except for one specific part of the game.
A few hours into playing God of War: Sons of Sparta, players encounter Ponea, the second of three challenging Stymphalian bosses. A strange issue occurs after defeating Ponea – it remains floating at the top of the screen, and players find themselves unable to progress, leading many to believe the game is malfunctioning.
How to Fix the God of War Sons of Sparta Ponea Boss Glitch
The tricky ending to the Ponea boss fight isn’t a bug – it’s simply a lack of clear instructions. To move forward, you need to collect the Frozen Plume. Just walk up to it and press the Triangle button to pick it up.
It might seem simple, but the game doesn’t tell you how to interact with the Frozen Plume in God of War: Sons of Sparta. Unlike everything else, there’s no on-screen message telling you what to do. This has caused some players to repeatedly restart the Ponea boss fight and reload their saved games.
Once you get the Frozen Plume, the game progresses as usual, sending Kratos and Deimos on their next mission. Before you continue, it’s a good idea to return to the Sanctuary. The Frozen Plume allows you to complete three additional Muse Trials. These trials are worth doing because finishing all nine will unlock a new area and the Amuse Trophy.
