High on Life 2: Kreg Button Boss Fight

In High on Life 2, you’ll face Kreg Button as a key boss at the end of the mission where you take down Larry Pinkstock. Once you solve the mystery of Pinkstock’s murder, you’ll be pursued by Button’s gang, the Gluttons, on a cruise ship. The final challenge before you can escape is Kreg Button himself, the gang’s leader.

While Kreg isn’t a super tough boss, he can be challenging for new players, particularly on harder difficulties where even small errors can be costly.

How to Defeat Kreg in High on Life 2

When the battle begins, Kreg will fly above the cruise ship on his mount, Peepee Boy, and attack you from the air. For most of the fight, he’ll stay at a distance, circling and dealing damage from above, and won’t come down to fight up close until the very end.

Okay, so the Kreg fight isn’t super complicated, but you really have to watch out for his attacks! They hit incredibly hard, and if he lands just one or two on you, especially on the harder difficulties, it’s game over. Honestly, it’s mostly just a standard shooting battle – nothing you haven’t seen before. If you can dodge his attacks and stay focused, you’ll definitely win!

If you’re defeated by Kreg, the game will automatically restart you at the beginning of the battle – the last place it saved your progress.

Kreg’s Attacks in High on Life 2

Phase 1: Peepee Boy

During the first phase of the fight, Kreg will have access to the following attacks:

Attack Description Screenshot
Gatling Gun Kreg uses a mounted gun on his flying mount to spray a large number of bullets at the player. The bullets have a travel time that makes it easy to dodge them if you react fast enough.
Chain Throw Kreg will throw an anchor attached to a chain directly at the player like a high-speed projectile. This attack can be parried by using the melee attack hotkey (Knifey) mid-animation. You’ll see an on-screen interaction prompt whenever a deflection is possible. If successful, the anchor will become buried in the ground, turning the metal chain into a makeshift zipline you can ride across to reach Kreg and his flying mount (Peepee Boy) directly to perform a close-range execution-style attack using Knifey that takes away a large chunk of HP.
Chain Sweep Kreg fans out six metal chains in a cone behind him and flies across the cruise ship’s deck, dragging the chains behind him and dealing damage to the player if they’re caught in any of the chains. You can use a double jump to jump over the chains or use your skateboard to skirt around the edges of the attack to avoid it. You will also be safe if you stand directly underneath Kreg during this attack, as all six chains extend sideways, and none are thrown directly underneath Peepee Boy.
Chain Slingshot Kreg hooks two chains to the cruise ship’s deck, one to his left and one to his right. He flies backwards until they are both taut like a primed slingshot, then lets go, shooting himself across the deck, dragging the two chains behind him, dealing damage. Unlike other attacks Kreg uses, this attack is very low to the ground. The best way to avoid it is by jumping upward as Kreg is shooting himself across the deck.
Chain Spin Kreg hooks one end of a chain directly in the middle of the arena and uses it as an anchor to spin the entire length of the deck, getting progressively faster and faster with each rotation. Like Circle Slingshot, this attack can be avoided simply by jumping upward. However, due to how fast Kreg starts to spin after gathering a lot of momentum, it can be quite hard to time these jumps correctly. The best place to stay during this attack is right in the middle of the arena, next to the anchor, so you have enough time to react to the chain.

Phase 2: On the Ground

When Kreg’s health drops to around 15-20%, Gessie, the large sea monster swimming around the cruise ship, will ram into the deck. This crushes Peepee Boy and leaves Kreg to fight alone. At this point, Kreg can only use these attacks:

Gatling Gun Kreg rips off the mounted Gatling Gun from Peepee Boy’s back and uses it to attack the player.
Shotgun Kreg uses his personal shotgun to fire a close-range shot, dealing massive damage. The farther you are from Kreg, the less damage this deals.
Kick Kreg kicks you away from him if you get too close. This can throw you overboard.
Grenade Kreg throws a fire grenade at you, dealing explosive damage. The thrown grenade can be deflected back at the boss using a melee attack, flipping the attack back on him.

Although these attacks cause significant damage, Kreg will be left with very little health, allowing you to quickly defeat him in just a few seconds.

Best Weapons to Use Against Kreg in High on Life 2

If you’ve already beaten Senator Muppy Doo, you’ll have the Sheath, a weapon similar to an assault rifle, which is great for fighting at a medium distance like this. If you don’t have that, Travis is your next best bet. His fast firing rate lets you quickly hit the enemy with multiple shots.

Sweezy is consistently a good pick, particularly because her Time Bubble and charged shot are effective against Kreg. Gus isn’t ideal for this fight, as Kreg spends most of it flying and the battle becomes long-range. However, Gus shines once Kreg is grounded after Peepee Boy is defeated.
