Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero Can't Be The End of One Feature

As a seasoned gamer who’s grown up with the Dragon Ball franchise, I must say that Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero has truly outdone itself. With its expansive roster, immersive story mode, and the standout feature – Custom Battle, it’s clear that this game was made for us fans by fellow fans.

The newly released “Dragon Ball” game, titled “Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero,” has been well received by fans thus far. Aiming to be the ultimate fanservice collection, this game offers all the anticipated features from a fresh installment in Akira Toriyama’s acclaimed series, plus some unexpected surprises. Despite fierce competition from other contemporary AAA “Dragon Ball” games, “Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero” also carries the Japanese subtitle of the beloved “Budokai Tenkaichi” game series, which sets the bar high enough that mediocrity is no longer an option.

It’s great news that Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero has stepped up to the mark. Originally promising to surpass Budokai Tenkaichi‘s extensive character roster by a few, the final trailer for Sparking Zero showcased an impressive 182 characters at launch, with plans to expand beyond 200 after the first season pass. The game offers smooth delay-based online multiplayer, a story mode filled with multiple routes, and additional animations and voice clips for a unique experience. However, one feature stands out, even with its flaws, it needs to be a recurring element.

Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero’s Custom Battle Is An Instant Highlight

On the same main menu screen where players enter the Episode Battle story mode, they will also discover options for Bonus Battle and Custom Battle. Bonus Battles are essentially pre-designed scenarios created by the developers of Sparking Zero to demonstrate the potential of Custom Battle, incorporating some rewards and advancement features. The primary attraction is the Custom Battle itself, which allows players to create their own “Dragon Ball” alternative scenarios as promised. For such an established and vibrant fandom like Dragon Ball’s, providing fans with an in-game fan fiction creator tool is truly exciting, and it only gets better!

Sparking Zero’s Custom Battle Mode Could Be Its Secret Weapon

Sparking Zero even further. However, the story editor has some restrictions regarding the available effects and poses, and sorting through its extensive library of pre-written dialogue can be challenging. Yet, with patience and learning, it can generate a variety of scenarios. Additionally, unlockable art stills based on famous Dragon Ball moments connect Custom Battle to Sparking Zero’s other game modes.

Dragon Ball’s Custom Battle Still Has Potential Left To Unlock

As a dedicated fan, it’s simply delightful to see the introduction of Custom Battle in Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero. This feature adds an unique charm to the game, as custom quests or scenario creators are seldom found in gaming. In fact, apart from Sparking Zero, Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy is one of the few games offering a similar mode. However, I believe this shouldn’t be the norm. Custom Battle has immense potential and it’s high time for more innovations, not just from its creators, but from the gaming community as well.

Many Franchises Would Benefit From Their Own Custom Battle

While a new Dragon Ball game similar to Sparking Zero might take some time to arrive, other popular series could potentially capitalize on this concept. For instance, another installment in the Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm series may incorporate a feature like Custom Battle, allowing players to utilize Cinematic strengths of CyberConnect2 within regular gameplay. Similarly, franchises such as One Piece and Bleach could also benefit from this addition, and even Dynasty Warriors and its spin-offs might create something unique with an advanced custom scenario maker. There’s still room for expansion in the Custom Battles of Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero, and fans would undoubtedly appreciate further refinements to these tools.
