Switch 2 Gamers Should Jump Back Into Donkey Kong Bananza Right Now

The popular game Donkey Kong Bananza has launched a new event called Emerald Rush, giving Nintendo Switch 2 players something fresh to experience. As a major exclusive title for the Nintendo Switch 2, Donkey Kong Bananza has been a huge success, selling millions of copies. With downloadable content like the DK Island and Emerald Rush packs, players have plenty of reasons to continue playing even after finishing the main game.

While many expected new downloadable content for Donkey Kong Bananza, the way it was released was unexpected. Nintendo announced and immediately launched the DK Island and Emerald Rush DLC during the September 2025 Nintendo Direct. Though some debated the $19.99 price, the DLC offered a new experience with Emerald Rush mode, which included roguelike elements and challenged players to gather gems against the clock. Successfully completing the mode allowed players to earn rewards from Void Kong. This addition has made the game more replayable, and Nintendo continues to support it with regular events.

Donkey Kong Bananza Hosting New Emerald Rush Event Called Ostrich Riches

The developer has just launched the Ostrich Riches event in Emerald Rush! It’s available now until February 23rd at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time. This event takes place in the Forest Layer, so your Ostrich Bananza will be especially useful. During Ostrich Riches, you can earn two special statues: one featuring the Ostrich transformation and another of Expresso, a character from the classic game Donkey Kong Country. You’ll need to achieve certain scores in the game mode to unlock them, but once you do, you can proudly display them on DK Island.

This event gives Switch 2 players a fresh reason to revisit Donkey Kong Bananza, but it’s only available to those who own the DK Island and Emerald Rush downloadable content. Some players might hesitate at the price, but the expansion does add a new world to explore. Plus, Emerald Rush offers varied levels and roguelike gameplay, which keeps things interesting for fans of that style.

Whether Donkey Kong Bananza will get more Emerald Rush events in the future is still unknown. But it’s not the only Donkey Kong game Nintendo is continuing to update. In late January, a new free update for Donkey Kong Country HD added playable character Dixie Kong and a Turbo Attack mode. The update also improved the game for Switch 2 owners with enhanced resolutions and faster loading times. Donkey Kong Country HD originally launched on Switch on January 16, 2025.

The past year has been great for fans of Donkey Kong, with lots of exciting news. While we don’t know what Nintendo has planned next for DK, they’re releasing more games exclusively for the Switch 2 in 2026. Pokemon Pokopia is coming out soon, on March 5th, and Yoshi and the Mysterious Book and Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave are scheduled to be released later in the year. It remains to be seen if Donkey Kong Bananza and these new titles will boost sales of the Switch 2 console in 2026.
