Okay, so a bunch of stuff is changing in how battles work, and I’m pretty excited about it! First off, damage will happen at the end of your turn now. This means Fast Attacks should tie properly when both players use them on the same turn, and it’ll be way easier to predict how much energy you’ll get. Basically, the outcome of a turn will depend on what both of us do, not on lag or connection issues. Switching Pokémon is getting a big update too. Now, swaps happen before damage, so if you switch in a Pokémon, it’ll take the hit from an incoming Fast or Charged Attack. They’ve also made the timing consistent: when a Pokémon faints, switching doesn’t cost a turn, but if I decide to switch, it will. And good news – swapping out at the end of a Charged Attack animation won’t cost a turn either!

Charged Attacks in Pokémon GO are being updated to work a little differently. Instead of starting instantly, they’ll now always begin at the start of the next turn after you activate them. When a Charged Attack and a Fast Attack happen at the same time, the effects of the Charged Attack – like stat changes – will now happen before the effects of the Fast Attack. This should make swapping Pokémon easier after using a Charged Attack, allowing players to use them more effectively. The HP bar is also getting a visual update to clearly show when damage is happening or about to happen, taking Charged Attacks into account.

We’ve made a key improvement to how battles work when a player loses connection. Now, both players must be online when a Pokémon GO Battle League match begins, and the battle will continue even if one player disconnects. This ensures fairer outcomes if someone unexpectedly loses connection during a battle.

Although a specific launch date hasn’t been announced, Niantic hopes upcoming changes will make Pokémon GO battles fairer for everyone. If successful, these updates will help players avoid unfair outcomes caused by connection issues or device problems, which are common in both rural and crowded areas.
