The latest update for Battlefield 6, Season 2, focuses on chemical warfare, so gas masks have been reintroduced to the game. When playing in modes with VL-7 Smoke, you’ll need to use a gas mask or experience disorienting hallucinations. Without one, you’ll see false signals on your map, strange shadows, and hear unsettling whispers. While gas masks are straightforward to use in Battlefield 6, here’s a quick guide if you need help.
Using Gas Masks in Battlefield 6
To put on a gas mask, press and hold the ‘X’ key on your keyboard, or press Up on the D-Pad if you’re using a controller. Just remember, you’ll only find gas masks in game modes that feature VL-7 gas, like VL-7 Strike/Warfare, Synthesis, and Altered State RedSec.
In Battlefield 6, anyone can equip a gas mask without needing a specific character skin. Just remember to carry filters in your inventory – you’ll see a number next to the gas mask icon on your screen showing how many you have. Being inside a VL-7 smoke cloud will use up your filter, so if you run out, you can find more at a Support Supply Box.
If your gas mask isn’t functioning properly in Battlefield 6, it’s probably a glitch. First, check that you have gas mask filters equipped. If the problem continues, try changing your control settings.
VL-7 gas isn’t harmful to your health. You can safely stay in dense clouds of it, but it will cause intense hallucinations. You’ll have trouble distinguishing friend from foe, and the overall experience will be incredibly disorienting and overwhelming.
The ‘Contaminated’ map in BF6 is unique because it’s the only one with VL-7 gas. This gas will cover most key areas, and with gas mask filters lasting less than a minute, sticking with your team’s Support players is crucial.
I’ve been playing a lot of the VL-7 game modes, and I’ve figured out something important. Because of all the gas clouds, you really have to get right in the action! It makes things super intense. I’ve found that assault rifles and carbines are the best weapons to use – they’re good whether you’re fighting close up or a little further away, which is exactly what you need when visibility is limited.
