When you reach James Stevenson’s luxurious apartment in High on Life 2, you won’t immediately find the bounty you’re looking for. Take a closer look – something seems strange about his bookcase and the oddly unstable pictures on the walls. These are key to solving the puzzle and finding James Stevenson. Here’s a guide to help you find the clues.
High on Life 2: How to Search For Clues to Find James Stevenson
After getting past the surprisingly weak security at Stevenson’s apartment—it’s much less secure than the protection around Senator Muppy Doo—you won’t find the Finance Wiz anywhere inside. To locate him, your first step is to go to his bookcase, which is directly in front of you when you enter. If you interact with a book that sticks out from the center of the shelf, you’ll discover that two books are missing.
Okay, so these two books aren’t just lying around the apartment. You actually find them by going through these portrait portals. There are two portraits on the wall near the seating area – one leads to each of the missing books. It’s kinda like a hidden doorway thing!
To find the first portal, face away from the bookcase. You’ll see a large painting of a green alien king sitting on a throne – and that throne is important! Jump into the painting, and a message will appear asking you to ‘Unlock the Stall Door’ to reach ‘James Stevenson’s Secret Toilet.’

You find yourself in a bathroom, and someone else is really eager for you to finish up. The red book is directly in front of you, on the bottom left of a shelf with other books and magazines. If you’re considerate, you can unlock the stall door as you leave. Otherwise, you can return through the painting and disturb the same person while they’re still using the restroom, if you want to be annoying.
Now that you have the first book, look directly across from it – you’ll see a painting of a corgi and other animals playing poker. You can use the chairs and tables in the alcove to move forward through the painting. This will trigger a new prompt: ‘Do the Deed in Privacy’ within the ‘Empty Jack Void.’ The book you need is now directly in front of you on the table. There are other objects you can interact with, but it’s best to avoid them for now.
Okay, so I got back to the apartment and checked out the bookcase. I needed to add a couple of books I’d found, and doing that actually opened up a hidden passage – pretty cool! It led to a games room with another one of those portrait portals. This one showed a castle in this really fantastical place called Prismeria. So, naturally, I jumped right through to continue with what I was trying to achieve.
