Todd Howard shared some news about future updates for Starfield, indicating that a major revamp of the game isn’t planned. However, he assured fans that there’s plenty of exciting content on the way for those who enjoy the space RPG.
Starfield presents an interesting situation for Bethesda. While critics generally loved the game, praising its massive scope, the player response has been more mixed, even among longtime Bethesda fans. Looking at Steam player numbers, Starfield hasn’t reached the same heights as previous games like Fallout 4 and Skyrim, which still have significantly more players online at any given time. It’s worth remembering that Starfield is also available through PC Game Pass, which impacts the Steam numbers. The game’s player base has also been affected by a slow release of new content; since launching in September 2023, only one major expansion has been released, with another currently in development.
New Starfield Content Won’t Win Over Gamers Who Didn’t Enjoy The Game Previously
So, I was listening to the Kinda Funny Gamescast, and Todd Howard dropped some hints about what’s coming for Starfield. He confirmed they’ve been working on a bunch of new content, but they’ve been heads-down on Fallout for a while now – especially with how huge the TV show became! They’ve kept Fallout 76 updated and even released the Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition. But the good news is, he said we’ll be hearing about what they’ve been cooking up for Starfield really soon. He promised they’re shifting focus and will start showing everything off properly. I’m hyped!
Rumors have been circulating for a while about a large update for Starfield expected in 2026, with some hoping it would be a massive revamp similar to the 2.0 update for Cyberpunk 2077. However, Todd Howard has clarified that the upcoming content is aimed at existing fans and shouldn’t be considered a Starfield 2.0. He explained that the updates will significantly change the game, expanding on its core concepts and offering new ways to experience space and its features – not just isolated changes, but broad, interconnected improvements.
I think it’s the kinda thing where, if you like Starfield, we think you’re going to love this.
It seems the new content for Starfield is aimed at existing fans, and Todd Howard agrees. He doesn’t believe it will change the minds of players who didn’t enjoy the game initially. “If you didn’t click with Starfield before, or found it uninteresting, this new content probably won’t change that,” he said. “But if you already love Starfield, we think you’ll be very happy with it.”
Bethesda hasn’t announced details about the second expansion for Starfield, though it’s anticipated to be released in 2025. Additionally, it looks like the game may be coming to PlayStation 5 after being available on Xbox for over two years. It would be great for players to have more options for playing Starfield, and hopefully that happens soon.
