How to Beat Mia in Resident Evil 7

Right from the start of Resident Evil 7, you’re thrown into a challenging boss battle against Mia Winters, the unstable wife of the main character, Ethan. She quickly demonstrates frightening powers and immediately attacks you.

Mia can be a challenging boss in Resident Evil 7, especially if you don’t focus on where you’re standing and aiming for headshots. This guide will show you exactly how to defeat her in both stages of the fight.

How to Beat Mia in Resident Evil 7

The battle with Mia in Resident Evil 7 happens in two stages. The first part is easier and takes place in the hallway leading to the basement. The second, much more challenging fight, happens in the attic. Here’s a guide to defeating Mia in RE7 during both of these stages.

How to Beat Mia – Phase 1

The first encounter with Mia in Resident Evil 7 happens in the hallway leading to the basement. Early in the game, Ethan doesn’t have any weapons, so you can only press the attack button when prompted to try and block Mia’s aggressive attacks. Soon after this struggle, Mia will collapse.

Walk up to Mia, who is lying still, and this will cause her to violently throw Ethan into a wall. After that, Ethan will grab an axe and the boss fight will truly begin. Don’t just attack Mia randomly with the axe; instead, carefully watch her movements and time your attacks to interrupt her when she’s about to strike. Wait for her to prepare an attack, then stop it by hitting her with the axe. Keep hitting Mia with the axe until she falls again – that completes the first phase of the fight.

How to Beat Mia – Phase 2

The second part of the fight with Mia begins when you reach the attic in the Guest House. Once you’re up there, grab the Handgun from the table and search the attic for all the handgun ammunition – you’ll need plenty! After collecting all the ammo, head to the ladder at the back of the attic, which leads to the window.

Once you reach the top of the ladder, Mia will attack with a chainsaw, starting Phase 2. Immediately jump down and create some space between yourself and her. She’ll move slowly most of the time, but will occasionally rush at you with the chainsaw. The key to success is to aim for headshots while staying far away, and using obstacles like crates or posts to your advantage.

Okay, so Mia is aggressive, she’ll tear through anything, but that aggression actually works against you. While she’s doing her thing, it gives me a chance to line up headshots with my handgun. More importantly, it buys me precious seconds to create distance. Getting swiped by that chainsaw is basically a game over – seriously, it’s instant death for Ethan. So dodging it is the absolute key to winning this fight, especially if you’re trying to beat RE7 on Madhouse difficulty.

Stunning Mia takes just a few headshots, but roughly five or six body shots. The main strategy is to keep shooting her while dodging her attacks until she’s defeated. Just be prepared to reload your weapon multiple times during the fight.
