As a seasoned gamer with a soft spot for Pokémon and Halloween, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming two-part Halloween event in Pokémon GO! The first part has already started, but it’s the second one that really gets me pumped. Dressing up Froakie and Rowlet in adorable costumes is just the cherry on top of an event that promises Gigantamax battles, rare candy drops, and a host of returning and new costumed Pokémon.
Kicking off Pokemon GO’s yearly Halloween celebration starting October 21, brings a dose of form-shifting excitement with the addition of Generation 8 Pokemon Morpeko. A few days later, on October 26, players of Pokemon GO will have the chance to come across Gigantamax versions of Charizard, Venusaur, and Blastoise, and engage in battles at designated Power Spots. However, the excitement doesn’t end there.
This year for Halloween, the Pokemon GO event is split into two parts. The second segment, starting on October 28 at 10 am local time, will debut charming new Pokemon dressed up, reintroduce costumed Pokemon from past events, and give players a chance to battle a brand-new Gigantamax adversary.

Froakie And Rowlett Don Adorable New Halloween Costumes
The Halloween tradition in Pokemon GO carries on with the Water-type starter Froakie (Generation 6) and Grass-type starter Rowlet (Generation 7). Froakie will don a witch’s hat, while Rowlet will sport a new top hat, giving it a dapper look. Interestingly, both of these Costumed Pokemon from 2024 can evolve, and their evolutions – Frogadier, Greninja, Dartrix, and Decidueye – will also be dressed for Halloween.
Additionally, certain Pokémon in costumes from past events will make a comeback during this occasion, some even with increased Shiny chances – however, the specific ones have yet to be revealed. For those eager to meet the costumed Pokémon ahead of time, a limited-time event pass can be bought for either $2 or $5. Both passes offer encounters with both old and new costumed Pokémon, but the $5 ticket also grants players an endearing Morpeko-themed outfit for their character’s avatar.
Face Off Against Gigantamax Gengar In Spooky Battles
During the second half of the Halloween event, a new Gigantamax Pokemon, specifically Gigantamax Gengar, will appear at designated Power Spots. Up to 40 trainers can band together to challenge this iconic Ghost-type Pokemon. Successful trainers will have the opportunity to catch their very own Gigantamax Gengar. This powerful creature can be utilized in battles against other Dynamax and Gigantamax Pokemon. In keeping with its counterpart in Pokemon Sword and Shield, Gigantamax Gengar in Pokemon GO will employ the potent and exclusive Ghost-type move, G-Max Terror, during combat.
“Trick Or Treat” For Candy On Halloween
On Halloween day itself, October 31st, players can enjoy Trick or Treat fun within Pokemon GO. Throughout the day, catching Costumed Pokemon may yield Rare Candies or Rare Candy XL with a Nice Throw or better. Moreover, there are additional Candy-related bonuses during the Halloween season, so it’s advisable to stay alert.
The second half of Pokémon GO’s Halloween event in 2024 will take place from October 28th at 10 am local time until November 3rd at 8 pm local time. Beyond the thrilling details we’ve previously announced, this event will also enhance Shiny rates for Umbreon and Zorua, offer a Timed Research task centered around Spiritomb, boost the presence of specific Dark- and Ghost-type Pokémon in raids and the wild, and there’s plenty more to look forward to as well!
Once Halloween wraps up, Pokemon GO has plenty more in store for the remainder of 2024. The Dynamax Battles will carry on, with potential additions of new Dynamax Pokemon as the game transitions from its spooky season celebrations to winter festivities. The year 2024 has been a whirlwind for Pokemon GO, and it appears that developer Niantic is showing no signs of letting up heading into 2025. Just as Pokemon grow when they enter their Dynamax or Gigantamax forms, Pokemon GO plans to keep expanding at an equally impressive rate.
