Highguard Confirms New Content Update Coming This Week

Wildlight Entertainment is launching a fresh update for their shooter game, Highguard, later this week. This update will introduce a new base to build, a new tool for raids, and new items in the game store. While they haven’t announced a specific date yet, Wildlight also plans to release a second update soon. This next update will add a brand-new game mode and make adjustments to weapon balance, along with other improvements.

The last few weeks have been challenging for the team behind Highguard. The game, which was first shown at The Game Awards last year, launched on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on January 26th. With developers who previously worked on popular games like Apex Legends and Call of Duty, expectations were high. However, Highguard hasn’t received very positive reviews and is now seeing low player numbers on Steam, currently averaging under 1,000 concurrent players after initially reaching over 97,000.

Highguard Adding New Content Later This Week

Even after significant layoffs, the team at Wildlight Entertainment is still dedicated to updating their popular, but often debated, shooting game. They announced on Twitter that a new patch will be released this week, adding a new area called Cloudreach. This area features a large airship hovering above the landscape, with the important Anchor Stone hidden inside. The airship’s deck provides a high vantage point for long-range attacks, while also allowing players to quickly move between the generator rooms for more intense, close-up fighting.

The latest update for Highguard this week introduces a new raid tool called the lockpick. According to Wildlight, this tool rapidly fires darts to open doors and windows, briefly securing them for your team while hindering the enemy. Additionally, Trader Flynn will now stock 7 items weekly, up from 5. This week, players can also purchase a new mount with 4 different styles, along with 4 new bundles.

Many were surprised to learn about a new update for Highguard, especially after the game’s website went offline a few days ago, leading to rumors the servers were shutting down. However, a developer quickly clarified that the website is simply being updated and streamlined. The team is currently prioritizing new content and updates for the game, so the website redesign is a lower priority.

The future of Highguard is uncertain given its small player base and limited development team, but Wildlight is still dedicated to the game. Players previously felt the maps were too large for 3v3 battles, so Wildlight quickly added a permanent 5v5 mode. Unfortunately, this wasn’t enough to retain players. However, the remaining developers are continuing to work on updates, including a new patch focused on a Raid-style game mode, weapon balancing, and other improvements.
