Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Riot Shield Removed

As a battle-hardened veteran of countless “Call of Duty” skirmishes, let me tell you, I have been on the receiving end of the riot shield spam more times than I care to remember. It’s been a source of frustration and controller-hurling incidents that would make even the most patient among us question our life choices.

Raise your hand if you have been personally victimized by the riot shield spam in Call of Duty.

This characteristic has frequently been the source of heated debates, and it’s often blamed for numerous gaming devices being damaged, such as controllers and headsets, when players become frustrated and throw them after their character is killed repeatedly in situations where they seem invincible to gunfire, even after firing an extensive number of bullets at a shield user.

The developers at Treyarch are not infallible; in fact, they incorporated a questionable device in Black Ops 2 (2012). However, they’ve now come back to Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 as the saviors of the franchise multiplayer, making up for any past mistakes.

Previously, the arsenal for Black Ops 6 was unveiled, showcasing a host of legendary firearms, yet what truly caught the attention of fans was the conspicuous absence: for the first time in ages, there’s no riot shield to be found among the 33 items.

Farewell to the lone individual hogging a busy zone, brandishing an ominous shield and pistol in the game of Black Ops 6, victory can only be achieved through firing your main weapon.

Do Shields Have a Place in Shooters?

Riot shields don’t have an innate negative quality; they can lead to thrilling gameplay as long as they’re used appropriately.

“A problem that arises in Call of Duty, particularly the Modern Warfare series, is that the riot shield has been turned into a tool for trolling.

In this gaming world, the pace is relentless and heavily focused on military themes, making the addition of shield mechanics feel rather out of sync, like a slice of cheese in a spicy salsa.

Compare it to tactical shooting games such as “Ready or Not,” “Zero Hour,” or “Rainbow Six: Siege.” These games feature a more metropolitan backdrop and provide a justification for carrying the heavy equipment, unlike the current scenario.

In the game “Call of Duty”, several problems with the shields were due to a lack of attention given to their balance by the developers.

In the early part of this year, the team behind Rainbow Six revised their shield mechanisms several times until they found a satisfying equilibrium.

Despite the potential for strong defensive gameplay in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, it seems that the majority of its future players are content to let the “cops” handle such matters. It’s high time for authentic covert agent combat instead.

The sixth installment of Call of Duty: Black Ops, titled “Call of Duty: Black Ops VI”, is scheduled to hit the shelves on October 25th. It will be available for PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X|S, as well as for PC users.
