Most Monster Hunter fans remember how quickly Monster Hunter Wilds went from a promising start to a frustrating experience. It initially broke Steam records, but soon became known for its performance issues, which unfortunately seemed to worsen with each update.
A year is a significant amount of time, and during that period, Capcom has been constantly updating the game – with some changes being more successful than others. Now, those efforts are really becoming noticeable on Steam.

Wilds, a game recently highlighted by GamesRadar, is now rated “Mixed” on Steam, with most recent reviews being “Mostly Positive.” This is a significant improvement from when the game received largely “Negative” and “Overwhelmingly Negative” reviews, suggesting players are starting to enjoy it again.
One player, who has spent over 554 hours in the game, said their main problems were how well the game ran and how challenging it was. They noted that updates kept making the hunts more difficult, but the January update resolved significant stuttering and frame rate drops in the more demanding parts of the game. They’re now happy to give the game a positive review and hope the developers learn from this experience, and are excited about the upcoming expansion.
The game is now receiving a lot of positive feedback on Steam, with many players returning to say they recommend it after the latest improvements and updates.
The game still has some negative feedback, but it appears to be improving, and more positive reviews are starting to emerge.
A New Expansion Could Lead To Even More Positivity
Capcom is likely to remain popular for a while, particularly because they’ve announced a large expansion for Monster Hunter Wilds similar to the successful Sunbreak and Iceborne expansions.
According to Ryozo Tsujimoto, the team is working on a major expansion for Monster Hunter Wilds, comparable in size to the Iceborne and Sunbreak expansions for previous Monster Hunter games. They intend to reveal more details this summer.

The game will also feature a special in-game event to celebrate its anniversary, keeping players engaged while they wait for more major content. The developers are also consistently improving the game’s performance and fixing any issues that arise.
Just like it took a significant shift for the situation to worsen after a strong beginning, it’s now taking considerable effort to improve things. While Wilds isn’t completely safe yet, there’s a noticeable glimmer of hope that wasn’t present even a few weeks ago.
