She’s much faster in combat, which is a nice change of pace. And both Geralt and Ciri have their own storylines, so switching between them feels really rewarding. What I especially appreciate is that your decisions actually matter – it’s not a game that just hands you everything, and if you like your choices to have real consequences, you’ll be thrilled!
Elden Ring
A Soulslike Without Parallel
Still looking for a truly challenging game? Then you need to try Elden Ring. FromSoftware’s newest hit (leaving aside Nightreign, which is quite different) takes the famously difficult Souls formula and places it in a vast, open world. The Lands Between are a strange, dark, and beautifully bizarre place to explore, and the game offers very little guidance. You’re free to forge your own adventure, and if you get stuck on a tough boss like Margit or the Tree Sentinel, you’ll need to level up and try again – or find another way around!
Honestly, the two bosses everyone’s talking about are just the beginning! This game is packed with so many others – both required and optional – and each one feels unique (though some of the non-required ones do get recycled a bit). The dungeons are amazing too; every time you step into a new area, it’s just breathtaking with its own look and feel. It’s seriously a game that just keeps going and going, kind of like The Witcher 3. And if you get the DLC? Prepare to be blown away! It adds a huge new area that’s really vertical and has a ton of new, weird, and super tough bosses and enemies. Plus, there are so many weapons and armor options that you can create all sorts of crazy builds. Seriously, anything works – even really silly ideas like magic or the classic ‘double jump’ attack!
