Avowed recently received a major update to celebrate its anniversary, and it’s now also available on PlayStation 5. While we don’t have sales figures yet, the game is getting much better reviews and feedback now than when it first came out, and players on PS5 are really enjoying it.
The latest update introduces three new playable races, offering more character customization options. However, the game’s director, Gabe Paramo, has stated that these new races won’t have special dialogue choices like some of the existing races, such as humans and elves.
Avowed’s New Races Don’t Have Unique Dialogue, But There Are Stat Differences
In an interview with RPG Site, Paramo detailed the upcoming new content. He clarified how choosing different races will affect gameplay, and was upfront about any restrictions these choices might have on roleplaying opportunities.
The team working after the game launched was mainly focused on getting it running on PlayStation 5 and improving gameplay, so we didn’t have anyone specifically dedicated to writing new dialogue options based on the player’s chosen race. However, we did make each race offer different advantages in gameplay, giving players a reason to choose based on how they want to play.
Adding the new playable races proved challenging due to their many unique features. As one developer explained, it required a significant effort from both gameplay engineers and character artists to ensure all customization options functioned correctly across each race. They also had to make sure everything in the game world worked smoothly, no matter a player’s character’s size or build.

Players of Avowed can now select from five different races: human, elf, dwarf, aumaua, and orlan. Regardless of your choice, you’ll play as a godsworn character, and this update includes new abilities tied to that status. You can choose to hide your godsworn nature, but other characters will still recognize it and react to it.
