How to Open the Sluice Gate in Resident Evil Village

Moreau’s Reservoir is a scary place, especially if you’re afraid of water – or don’t want to be eaten by a giant fish! In Resident Evil Village, Ethan needs to figure out how to open the Sluice Gate if he wants to find his daughter and survive.

The Sluice Gate is a challenging puzzle. First, you’ll need to get the Crank by avoiding Moreau and navigating dangerous waters. Even after you have the Crank, the puzzle itself can be tricky! We’ll show you how to restore power and solve the Sluice Gate puzzle below.

How to Turn on Electricity to the Sluice Gate in Resident Evil Village

Once you’ve examined the closed Sluice Gate, go through the door and towards the windmill. When you reach the windmill, you’ll find a crank you can pull, but it will break before completing a full turn. If the crank breaks, go around to the back of the windmill and climb down the ladder.

After reaching the bottom of the reservoir, cross the wooden planks and shoot the beam with the yellow tape to bring down the next platform. Be careful of Moreau – only walk on the beams when he isn’t focused on them to avoid being spotted.

You’ll find two more beams marked with yellow tape – one on the left and one on the right of a large structure. Shoot both of these beams, then continue forward and go up the stairs. At the top, you can push a cart into the water. Once it’s out of the way, follow the newly opened path and interact with the fuse box.

Across from the fuse box, you’ll see colored switches that lift blue and orange platforms. Activate the switches and go to the shack. Inside, you’ll find a white switch. Press the white switch, then quickly press the orange and blue switches, and run across the platforms to the right.

Keep following the wooden walkways. When you see another cart blocking your path, push it into the water – you can then use it as a bridge to continue. Next, shoot the green slime with your weapon and pull the lever. This will lower you onto a boat, which you should immediately steer into the building.

Go to the back of the building and shoot the lock above you to bring down the ladder. Climb the ladder to reach the top of the second windmill. Then, pick up the crank. Next, go to the broken ladder on the right and interact with it. Finally, return to the wheel, put the crank back in, and push it.

Now, climb the ladder and use the zipline to reach the first windmill. Then, use the crank on that windmill to turn on the Sluice Gate.

How to Solve the Sluice Gate Puzzle in Resident Evil Village

Okay, so the power’s back on at the Sluice Gate, which means we can finally tackle this puzzle! There are nine panels here, and clicking them reroutes the power, changing their color. Basically, we need to match the pattern on that paper over there – think of the third column as the bottom row of the puzzle. I’ve got a picture of the solution right above, but just in case it’s not clear, I’ll walk you through it step-by-step below.

Blue White Red
White Red Black
Red Blue Blue

The black square appears in different places depending on where you’re looking. On the paper, it’s at the bottom middle, but on the console, it’s in the middle of the third column. To solve this, simply rotate or flip the image so it matches what you see on the console. If you do this correctly, it will open the Sluice Gate, stop the water flow, trap Moreau, and let you proceed.
