The Bridge Curse 2: The Extrication review

As a seasoned horror enthusiast who has braved countless nights of terror, I must say that The Bridge Curse 2: The Extrication has left an indelible mark on my already haunted soul. Having survived terrifying encounters with Freddy Krueger and Chucky, the ghostly apparitions of Wen Hua University sent shivers down my spine in a way that no human-made slasher could ever achieve.

Although I don’t believe in ghosts, horror films that feature any kind of apparition or spirit terrifies me more than anything else. Show me Terrifier or Nightmare on Elm Street and I’m fine, but Paranormal Activity or Hell House LLC leave me feeling so uncomfortable. With The Bridge Curse 2: The Extrication, Softstar has improved on the original in every way, and while there are still things that I didn’t particularly like, I’m never going to forget some of the creepy things I saw while roaming the halls of Wen Hua University.

In The Bridge Curse 2: The Extrication, you’ll assume control of four characters who venture into a renowned university during the dead of night. It might not be the wisest choice, but exploring during daylight wouldn’t create the same atmosphere. Due to some genuinely terrifying spirits haunting the campus, you’ll spend your time treading lightly and hoping to avoid any strange encounters. The designs for these entities are impressive, such as the lady with a broken neck who greets you early on, and the constant effort to evade or flee from them keeps you on edge.

Regardless of whether you’re assuming the roles of a reporter or filmmaking students, there’s hardly any room for relaxation. The tension is thick in the air, and even brief moments of apparent calm are quickly shattered by loud noises from the walls or distant shattering glass, which leaves your heart pounding. The environment has been masterfully crafted to instill unease, with lighting that makes you scrutinize every shadow and visuals that intensify anxiety through a skillfully designed network of corridors and rooms. As you traverse various levels within the university, there’s always a lingering sense of tension that refuses to dissipate.

In The Bridge Curse 2: The Extrication, you’ll employ different tools like the lantern to dispel spectral fog or quiet spirits. Alongside this, you’ll encounter a mix of thought-provoking puzzles. These challenges are neither overly simple nor excessively complicated; they provide a satisfying level of difficulty without causing frustration. It’s delightful to witness a game that effectively strikes the balance between challenge, annoyance, and guidance, and The Bridge Curse 2: The Extrication manages to do just that. Each puzzle frequently has multiple levels, and solving them correctly will give you a sense of accomplishment.

The Bridge Curse 2: The Unraveling – Abundant in captivating lore, this sequel hides documents throughout Wen Hua University and uses a variety of artifacts to flesh out its history. I found myself engrossed in each tidbit of information about the legends that permeate the university, and the overall narrative kept me hooked. Whilst I appreciated the story and related to many of the characters, some of the voice acting was overly dramatic for my taste.

Perhaps it’s my personal taste that caused a disconnect with certain characters, as I usually immerse myself in games set in different countries by watching subtitles rather than listening to English dialogue. Regrettably, the actors in this game are all English and their performance sometimes falls flat, especially given the quirky directors. However, it’s not that the acting is poor; some scenes were overly dramatic. Nevertheless, when the sense of dread kicked in, I stopped caring about the exaggeration and just focused on staying alive.

I thoroughly enjoyed playing The Bridge Curse 2: The Extrication. The atmosphere of suspense permeates every moment, leaving you constantly on your toes since there’s always something to keep you guessing – be it a genuine apparition or the clever use of lighting that makes the university setting seem deceptive. The puzzles are well-designed, although I yearned for a bit more flexibility to explore the university more extensively. The voice acting is occasionally flamboyant, but it showcases strong characters within an engaging narrative.
