- Realm Royale Reforged will shut down on February 17, 2025 at 12pm EDT.
- This announcement comes less than three weeks after layoffs at Hi-Rez Studios were confirmed.
- Divine Knockout will also shut down its servers on February 17.
As a longtime fan who has spent countless hours battling it out in the colorful and action-packed world of Realm Royale Reforged, I must admit I am disheartened to hear that the game will be shutting down on February 17, 2025. It’s been a wild ride, from the days of the original Realm Royale to this reimagined version, and I’ve made countless friends along the way.
Hi-Rez Studios has announced that their battle royale game, Realm Royale Reforged, will be closing on February 17, 2025. This decision follows only three weeks after Hi-Rez CEO Stewart Chisam unveiled a company reorganization that includes staff reductions.
According to a recent update by Chisam, the job cuts at Hi-Rez were a result of a thorough examination of their overall strategy and workings within the studio. This evaluation led Hi-Rez to primarily concentrate on their upcoming third-person MOBA game, “Smite 2,” while only providing continued support for “Smite 1” and “Paladins” as well.
It’s no shock, then, that Realm Royale Reforged is one of the first games to have its live service support withdrawn by Hi-Rez. This shutdown is scheduled for February 17, 2025 at noon EDT, and from that moment, the game will no longer be available for purchase on digital storefronts.
Digital Knockout is Also Shutting Down
On February 17, 2025 at 12pm EDT, it’s not just Realm Royale Reforged that Hi-Rez Studios is taking offline, but also Divine Knockout. This lesser-known game, a 3D platform fighter, may not have had as many players as Realm Royale, but it’s still unfortunate to see it go offline. Like Realm Royale, Divine Knockout will be removed from digital storefronts when its servers are shut down, meaning the game can no longer be downloaded.
Due to the conclusion of support for Realm Royale Reforged and Divine Knockout, Hi-Rez Studios is now managing four active live-service games: Smite, Smite 2, Paladins, and Rogue Company. Chisam’s previous post indicated that updates will still be provided for the first three titles, but it was silent on Rogue Company’s future. This could imply that Hi-Rez Studios may also consider discontinuing Rogue Company, although this has not been officially confirmed yet.
It seems that Rogue Company has a somewhat larger number of active players on Steam compared to the games scheduled for shutdown. Specifically, Rogue Company boasts a 24-hour peak of more than 500 players, whereas Realm Royale Reforged and Divine Knockout have 24-hour peaks of around 300 and under 50 players respectively. Although these extra players might not be enough to guarantee the survival of Rogue Company, they could potentially persuade Hi-Rez Studios to keep the tactical shooter’s servers running past February.
