Poison Ivy Has a Big Part Yet to Play in Batmans Arkhamverse

As a lifelong Batman fan, I wholeheartedly agree that Poison Ivy deserves her own Arkham game prequel. I’ve been following this series since its inception and it’s high time we delved into the origins of one of Batman’s most intriguing villains.

From the thrilling adventures I’ve experienced in the Arkhamverse, it seems safe to say that most of Batman’s iconic villains have made an appearance. However, there are a few notable antagonists that have yet to grace our screens, even though they’re hinted at through Easter eggs or casual dialogue. It’s fascinating how some periods in Batman’s career remain unexplored before games like Arkham Asylum and perhaps Arkham Origins lay the groundwork for their origin stories.

Rocksteady Studios tends to avoid delving into origin stories and it remains a mystery why this is the case. To date, no game has been released that explores how any Robin or Batgirl came to be, and with fewer years remaining, it’s becoming increasingly unlikely that games set in those times will show events preceding Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Similarly, iconic villains like Poison Ivy don’t just emerge from the ground overnight. If any villain is due for a starring role in an Arkham game with an origin story, it would surely be Poison Ivy who has been waiting long enough to bask in the limelight.

Batman Arkhamverse Prequels Can Bring Poison Ivy Full Circle

In Batman: Arkham Knight, Poison Ivy met a heroic end by self-sacrificing to disperse Scarecrow’s citywide fear gas. On the other hand, through playing Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, gamers have had the chance to see her character resurrected (or more accurately, regrown) as a child.

If the storyline of Arkhamverse progresses, she might look like a mature young adult. It’s intriguing to imagine how Pamela Isley transformed into Poison Ivy. The earliest reference to Isley in the game is through the Cold, Cold Heart DLC of Batman: Arkham Origins. Here, a visitor/guest ID badge bearing her name can be discovered at GothCorp.

In the series Asylum, the biography of character Pamela Isley is only briefly explained as being a botanist who underwent a faulty scientific transformation into a plant-human hybrid. However, the patient interview recordings within Asylum do delve deeper by revealing that Dr. Jason Woodrue was responsible for poisoning her.

There’s still a lot of untouched Arkhamverse history waiting to be explored, and watching Isley transform into Ivy within the game could be thrilling. It would be even more intriguing if this transformation led to the demise of many Gotham citizens, potentially surpassing any chaos depicted in previous Arkham games. However, it’s important to note that the alien invasion in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League might outshine this event in terms of grandeur due to its Metropolis setting and multiversal impact.

Poison Ivy is an A-List Villain and the Arkham Games Need to Remember That

In a truly remarkable display of her potential, Batman: Arkham Asylum showcased just how formidable she could be when empowered by Titan. This was evident as she conjured up colossal flora from beneath Arkham Island, enveloping the Botanical Gardens in sprawling roots, and sprinkling Titan-enhanced plants all over the courtyard.

In the boss fight with Poison Ivy in “Asylum”, she demonstrates her power to unleash a wave of thorns and transform into a colossal plant-like creature. This battle is visually impressive, but it’s unfortunate that it’s the only time players have encountered such an encounter featuring Ivy in the Arkhamverse. Furthermore, “Asylum” and “Assault on Arkham” hint at an enemy group under Ivy’s control, comprised of individuals susceptible to her pheromones, as shown by glowing green eyes and the limp postures resembling groaning zombies.

In Asylum, the concept of pheromone-controlled enemies is only briefly touched upon, and it would be disappointing if no future Arkham game delved deeper into this aspect, especially involving Poison Ivy. It’s uncertain whether Rocksteady or any other studio is working on a new Arkham game, nor can we predict if it would focus on Poison Ivy as the main antagonist. However, among potential villains, few could offer as much excitement in the Arkhamverse as those who haven’t already been given their own narrative spotlight.
