Over the past few months, some prospective purchasers have been mentioned in the media, including Bobby Kotick and the proprietors of Kick.com.

Amazon might be planning to buy TikTok to keep it operational within the U.S., and to take control away from its Chinese proprietors. The app’s use could be prohibited nationwide in America due to worries over the underlying safety issues associated with it, given its connections to Beijing.
According to a recent article in the New York Times, ‘those engaged in the discussions seem to regard Amazon’s offer as unconvincing or insignificant’.

The proposal arrived through a letter sent to both Vice President JD Vance and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, as reported by someone who was informed about the situation.
Efforts to contact ByteDance (the company that owns TikTok) and Amazon have proven unsuccessful so far, and there’s no clear information available about the amount Amazon might have offered for the acquisition or the likelihood of the deal moving forward.
Currently, Amazon owns Twitch, a leading streaming platform that surpasses competitors such as YouTube and Kick.com in popularity. Should it purchase TikTok, Amazon would gain significant control over content creators and streamers on a global scale.
It appears that Amazon may find it challenging to acquire TikTok as its parent company, ByteDance, has expressed a readiness to shut down the app in the U.S. should the government impose a ban on it. This information was disclosed in a statement issued on January 18.
