As a long-time fan and follower of Bohemia Interactive, I must say that their journey over the past 25 years has been nothing short of awe-inspiring. The impact of Steam on their success is undeniable, with an astonishing 40 million copies sold through the platform! It’s mind-boggling to think about how many hours of tactical shooter fun have been enjoyed by gamers worldwide thanks to this partnership.
Bohemia Interactive marked its 25th anniversary with some exciting news – they announced the anticipated release date for their tactical shooter game, ArmA 4, scheduled for 2027 (even a future release is preferable to no release at all). To share this thrilling update, they put on an impressive orchestral performance.
In a recent social media update, Marek Spanel, one of our founders, offered some enlightening thoughts about how Steam has influenced our sales.
25 years of gaming bliss, and I can proudly say that over 47 million copies of my favorite games from Bohemia have been sold worldwide. A whopping 40 million of those were purchased via Steam – a testament to the quality and appeal of their titles!
This analysis offers a comprehensive view of the remarkable impact that Steam platform has on its market.

The firm debuted its initial product on the Valve marketplace with ArmA 2, which was launched back in 2009. In simpler terms, the game’s release didn’t generate much buzz at first, selling only 174 units to start.
In a similar manner to Half-Life, ArmA 2 left a significant mark primarily due to its thriving modding community. This community gave birth to the survival game phenomenon, DayZ, as well as other notable creations.
Approximately 1.93 million individuals are currently listed as owners of the game ‘ArmA 2’, while approximately 7.66 million own ‘DayZ’ according to PlayTracker’s latest statistics.
The thriving modding community significantly boosted “DayZ” into one of the most frequently played games on Steam, reaching an all-time high of nearly 80,000 concurrent players just three days ago. However, this could potentially bring complications for Bohemia Interactive in the future.
In line with the development plan for ArmA 4, the company introduced ARMA Reforger. This was originally presented as a technical demonstration, serving primarily to familiarize both players and modifiers with the latest engine tools.
Over time, Reforger expanded beyond its original boundaries and appears poised to serve as a strong contender for the role that ArmA 3’s successor might have played, until its sequel is released. However, despite this potential, the player base remains stationary.
Even during its leanest year post-launch, ArmA 3 consistently draws in approximately 20,000 players simultaneously. This number surpasses the estimated player base of DayZ (12.73 million, according to PlayTracker).
Although ARMA Reforger still needs improvements, the primary reason many gamers haven’t switched over in large numbers is because there are practically endless mods and DLCs for ArmA 3.
Among many players, it’s typical to set aside a specific drive exclusively for storing user-generated content from the Workshop. Modders of ARMA Reforger, by the year 2027, aim to generate enough material to require an additional 1TB of storage space.
