As a seasoned commander who has seen countless battles and led armies through thick and thin, I must say it’s disheartening to see some of these legendary heroes fall short in terms of their combat capabilities.

Age of Empires Mobile is a widely recognized mobile MMO strategy game where you have the opportunity to build your very own civilization from its foundations. You can amass a colossal army, enlist potent champions, and forge alliances to emerge as the dominant force within the empire. However, there are more than 40 distinct heroes available for you to select as your commanders.

In a situation where there are numerous potential allies yet resources are scarce, it’s crucial to invest in those who offer the most benefits. However, distinguishing the superior heroes from the rest can be challenging. To assist you with this task, I have prepared a comprehensive tier list specifically for the game Age of Empires Mobile.

This tier list consists of heroes that are currently available in Age of Empires Mobile and of rarity, Legendary and above. Moreover, it’s a subjective ranking from the author’s perspective and might change in the future with new additions or balance changes.

Age Of Empires Mobile Hero Tier List

S-Tier Heroes

In the game Age of Empires Mobile, the top-tier heroes, or simply put, the most potent ones you can acquire, are truly valuable. Anytime you decide to allocate EXP books and Skill Points towards these characters, it’s an investment that pays off in both the beginning and advanced stages of gameplay. From their initial abilities, these heroes showcase considerable power and grow even stronger when leveled up.

King Arthur

King Arthur is the unique, legendary hero in Age of Empires Mobile, and it’s easy to see why. His abilities are incredibly powerful, capable of dealing massive amounts of damage. His commander skill, ‘Glory of Knight,’ not only dishes out substantial damage but also enhances his own stats remarkably.

Furthermore, his unique ability enables him to inflict extra damage that bypasses the enemy’s defensive mechanisms. In combat situations, utilizing him as the main commander for a Swordsmen or Cavalry unit is highly recommended.

Attila The Hun

Attila the Hun serves as a powerful secondary commander, with his unique ability, ‘Annihilator‘ standing out, enabling every allied hero in the army to enter the ‘Doubled Assault State,’ effectively doubling the damage output of your heroes. Additionally, he synergizes exceptionally well with Archer or Cavalry units as he enhances their stats.

Hua Mulan

In the game “Age of Empires Mobile,” Hua Mulan is renowned as the most skilled archer regiment commander. Her abilities enable her to inflict damage multiple times when she executes a regular attack. When teamed up with Attila, who amplifies normal attacks, they create an incredibly powerful and potentially overpowered duo.

Miyamoto Musashi

Miyamoto Musashi is an indispensable warrior for any sword-wielding unit within your military force. His secondary ability, ‘Moment of Yin,’ is exceptionally powerful and has the capability to instantly trigger another soldier’s unique active skill. When combined with heroes such as King Arthur or Tribhuwana, your army will boast an incredible damage output.

Hannibal

Hannibal shares a similar skill set and delivers comparable effects as Hua Mulan, primarily focusing on the Cavalry unit instead of Archers. Furthermore, he has the ability to weaken enemy heroes upon activating his secondary skills. However, one potential drawback is that there aren’t many Cavalry commander options available for pairing with him. But, you can complement him effectively with supportive commanders such as Justinian the Great or Ashoka.

Leonidas

Among the four legendary Pikemen commanders in Age of Empires Mobile, Leonidas stands out as the most powerful. His expertise lies in counterattacks and he possesses a distinctive active skill called ‘Firm Strike.’ Remarkably, this ability grows stronger as you lose more units during battle.

Sun Tzu

Sun Tzu is the most formidable damage dealer of strategy in Age of Empires Mobile. His active and secondary abilities instigate the ‘Ultimate Strategist’ buff, which increases the strategy damage dealt whenever a skill is employed during combat. This effect amplifies further with each triggering of his skills, leading to an incredibly high damage capacity for Sun Tzu.

Queen Seondeok

As a dedicated fan, I’d say among all archer commanders, Queen Seondeok stands out as the unique one who can dish out Strategy damage and inflict potent debuffs such as Silence and Burn. Her Silence debuff is particularly formidable in PvP battles, capable of disrupting any enemy army formation with its powerful disruption capabilities.

Tribhuwana

As a seasoned gamer, I can confidently say that Tribhuwana is hands down the most formidable ally for any Swordsmen regiment. She’s an indispensable character, especially in the later stages of the game. Her support skill, ‘Ode to Java,’ is nothing short of game-changing. In a pinch, it has the power to shift the balance of any battle decisively in your favor.

This ability boosts the probability of the main commander’s unique skill being triggered and restores your troops every time a skill is activated four times. When deployed near heroes with damaged signature skills such as King Arthur or Miyamoto Musashi, it significantly enhances your army’s power.

Diao Chan

In “Age of Empires Mobile,” Diao Chan functions more like a supportive character. Unlike most heroes, she excels in resource collection rather than combat. Her abilities are specifically designed to increase the speed and effectiveness of gathering resources, which makes her an outstanding choice for amassing resources.

Furthermore, one of her distinctive abilities, ‘Unit Charge,’ increases a substantial portion of accumulated resources by 50% every day. Essentially, this ability generates resources seemingly from nothing, with no drawbacks attached.

A-Tier Heroes

In the game Age of Empires Mobile, A-tier heroes make excellent choices for your army. Given some time, talent adjustments, and promotions, these heroes might even match up against top-tier characters.

Cleopatra VIII

Cleopatra VIII is one of the free Legendary heroes you can acquire right from the start and serves as an effective support character for many Cavalry or Swordman units. She’s capable of inflicting substantial Strategy damage, making her a suitable companion for figures like Sun Tzu and Hannibal. Moreover, she has the ability to lessen the damage dealt by enemy heroes while boosting your own heroes, which makes her particularly useful in both Player vs Player (PvP) and Player vs Environment (PvE) situations.

Octavian

Octavian stands out as a distinctive attack hero who truly shines in a supporting role as a commander. Unlike many other heroes, his abilities primarily revolve around employing ‘Marks.’ These are a status that can be imposed whenever he employs a skill during combat. Once eight marks have been accrued, his army’s damage per second (DPS) increases by nearly 10% – an effect that continues until the battle concludes, making him particularly suited for protracted battles of grand scale.

Justinian the Great

In the realm of Age of Empires Mobile, Justinian the Great stands out as an exceptionally powerful healer among the other characters. Although he may not excel as a primary commander, he proves to be incredibly effective when used as a secondary commander. He consistently restores the health of your army, and this healing ability is further amplified each time another commander activates their secondary skill.

In combination with other Cavalry leaders who can activate their abilities repeatedly, such as Ashoka, Cleopatra, or even Hannibal, your unit becomes extremely challenging to overcome due to its formidable strength.

Josephine

Josephine is the initial champion in Age of Empires Mobile and proves to be exceptionally beneficial over time. Although her abilities may not be unparalleled, she serves as a reliable stand-in until you acquire an elite-tier commander.

Furthermore, her medals are relatively simple to earn, making it straightforward for you to promote her. If you can elevate her rank to three or higher, then she becomes quite beneficial, serving effectively both as a primary and secondary commander. Notably, her secondary skill’s impact is amplified by an impressive 65%.

Rani Durgavati

In terms of abilities, Rani Durgavati shares a resemblance with Attila the Hun and possesses the capability to activate the ‘Double Attack’ effect through her secondary skill. If you find it challenging to secure Attila, then Rani Durgavati is an excellent alternative to consider.

The only factor that separates her from the S-tier is that while she can allow heroes to enter the secondary attack state, her double attack doesn’t trigger a secondary attack for skills and is limited to normal attacks.

Ashoka

Ashoka, like Justinian, is a highly effective tactician and can offer a substantial advantage when paired with compatible commanders. He boosts the probability of the lead commander’s secondary strike ability and grants invulnerability to control during the triggering of a secondary skill. Given that he is a dual-unit type commander, he works particularly well when teamed up with Hannibal, Justinian, or Cleopatra to maximize his potential.

Harald III

Harald III is a particularly adaptable character you might choose to add to your roster. Beyond being a dual-type unit leader, his abilities are primarily geared toward delivering robust offensive assistance.

Apart from inflicting substantial damage himself, he also enhances the damage output of all other commanders in the army. He’s a versatile choice who works well alongside most Cavalry or Swordsman units, significantly boosting their overall effectiveness.

Tokugawa Ieyasu

Unlike many other heroes, Tokugawa Ieyasu possesses a relatively straightforward set of abilities, yet their influence is substantial. Much like Justinian, he functions primarily as a support character, with his main goal being to restore a large number of your troops during combat. What truly distinguishes him from others is that not only does he recover units, but he also markedly reduces the damage to skills sustained by his army.

B-Tier Heroes

In Age of Empires Mobile, the B-tier heroes serve as capable commanders that can be utilized either as substitutes or strategically within a specific group of commanders. However, it’s generally advisable not to invest EXP books or skill points in them because these heroes are relatively interchangeable and would yield more benefits if invested in a hero from a higher tier.

Richard I

Similar to many commanders in “Age of Empires Mobile”, Richard I specializes in strategies centered around counter-attacks and absorbing greater amounts of damage. His unique ability tends to activate more frequently as he endures more regular assaults.

As a follower of this game, I must admit that the abilities he possesses aren’t inherently negative and could potentially benefit a pikemen regiment. However, the coin cost for acquiring him is equivalent to other Legendary Advent characters like Attila. Given this equal expense, it seems that he isn’t a practical choice compared to these other legendary figures, making him less viable in my opinion.

Toyotomi Hideyoshi

Toyotomi Hideyoshi exhibits significant command abilities and boasts a high damage per second (DPS) rate. His unique skill inflicts substantial damage and repeatedly amplifies the intensity of the damage with each use. However, his main drawback lies in being effective only as a primary commander, lacking versatility compared to other swordsman commanders who surpass him in various aspects.

Theodora

In the game Age of Empires Mobile, Theodora is one of the support characters, but she’s placed in the B-tier as her supportive abilities aren’t particularly strong. Characters ranked higher than her have more impact on the team composition. Theodora offers a typical damage increase and a minor reduction in damage taken, approximately 3%.

King Derrick

King Derrick is a commander who excels in both Player versus Player (PvP) combat and resource gathering. He effectively enhances the speed of resource collection, making him beneficial for this purpose. However, he does not stand out as an exceptional gathering hero, so he falls into the lower tiers.

In battle, he applies the ‘Retreat’ status effect with his unique ability and delivers extra damage. He serves effectively as a versatile replacement for most Archers or Infantry units.

Frederick Barbarossa

Frederick Barbarossa is a formidable and resourceful commander, boasting a robust set of abilities, particularly suitable for pikemen regiments. In battle situations where you are experiencing unit losses, he becomes even more valuable, strengthening your army.

He’s categorized in B tier due to his restriction to using only pikemen units, which lack strong leaders to back him up, and because spending resources on acquiring him could yield other superior characters in higher tiers instead.

Guan Yu

Guan Yu is known for dealing high damage, but his usefulness is somewhat restricted. Similar to Toyotomi Hideyoshi, he’s effective primarily as a main commander and is confined to commanding Cavalry-type units. This limits his versatility, as other commanders and cavalry heroes often surpass him in this regard.

Constantine the Great

Constantine the Great serves as a supportive character in combat, initiating healing effects when he uses his auxiliary attack abilities. However, the healing he provides is generally less potent compared to other healing figures such as Justinian.

Additionally, he specializes in serving Swordsman regiments, where the commanders are already quite formidable. As such, he is merely a temporary stand-in until we can find a more capable replacement.

Julius Caesar

In the game “Age of Empires Mobile,” Julius Caesar functions primarily as a hero who engages in turn-based attacks. While his abilities aren’t particularly exceptional or unique, he excels when utilized as the main commander. At best, he can be considered effective in this role.

In the early stages of the game, he could serve effectively as either a pikeman or a swordsman regiment commander, should there be no better options available. However, replace him with a more capable character once that becomes possible.

Oda Nobunaga

Oda Nobunaga serves as an offensive hero, much like Julius Caesar, by dishing out damage during each turn or round. His abilities aren’t exceptional and don’t offer a lot of flexibility. The optimal strategy would be to team him up with the Toyotomi and Tokugawa, but even in this powerful squad, he might struggle in late-game Player vs Player (PvP) fights.

Sejong the Great

In simpler terms, Sejong the Great is a hero primarily utilized within Cavalry units. He offers minimal damage reduction with his abilities and has a chance to heal units when they sustain damage. However, compared to other support heroes at higher levels, his supportive skills are weaker and do not guarantee healing. If you don’t have a more powerful support hero available, Sejong can serve as an adequate substitute.

C-Tier Heroes

In the game Age of Empires Mobile, the C-tier heroes are undeniably the least powerful options for your army. They fail to deliver substantial benefits and the effort put into enhancing their skills is not rewarding. Spending EXP books or medals on these heroes would not yield a valuable return.

Cid

In essence, Cid is a hero specializing in offensive attacks, capable of dealing solid damage, impeding enemies, and to a certain degree, preventing them from recuperating. While these abilities might sound potent, they don’t seem to offer significant advantage when applied in actual PvP (Player versus Player) battles.

As a gamer, I’ve found one major drawback when it comes to Cid: he can solely be acquired through the Legendary Advent event. Unfortunately, this event often offers heroes that are far more valuable to unlock, with some even falling into the S tier. These top-tier characters can significantly boost my gaming experience compared to Cid.

Tariq

Tariq is a hero who combines support and damage-dealing roles. He’s exclusively used in Cavalry units. His abilities are particularly advantageous for commanders leading Secondary Strike operations, boosting critical hit rate, but only Commander Cid can utilize this benefit as he’s the sole Cavalry commander profiting from Tariq’s supportive skills. Due to his narrow support capabilities, Tariq is effective only when paired with Cid and Bushra. However, this combination isn’t particularly powerful, placing Tariq in tier C rankings.

Philip IV

Philip IV is another hero in “Age of Empires Mobile” who specializes in dealing damage through strategic means. However, it’s important to note that he can only lead Swordsman units, which may limit the heroes you can combine him with effectively. In an ideal scenario, he could serve as a secondary commander alongside Sun Tzu, but even then, Cleopatra would still outperform him in terms of overall effectiveness.

Bushra

In simpler terms, Bushra is generally considered one of the top heroes in Tier C. She’s a unique type of support hero who can simultaneously heal units and temporarily increase her allies’ armor. Additionally, she deals a small amount of Strategy damage. However, since her supportive abilities are somewhat limited compared to those in higher tiers, she isn’t ranked higher. In other words, the support capabilities of heroes in higher tiers are more extensive than Bushra, providing greater value to their commanders.

Hammurabi

Despite being a support hero, Hammurabi has relatively weak damaging abilities. His unique skill primarily boosts the commander’s attack, but only for Might damage. Due to his limited supportive capabilities, he serves as a temporary replacement until you can acquire heroes like Miyamoto Musashi or Tribhuwana.

Joan of Arc

In much the same way as Josephine, Joan of Arc serves as one of the initial heroes that are free-to-play in Age of Empires Mobile. She primarily functions as an attacker but her damage per second (DPS) is relatively low and she’s quite dependent on counterattacks to be effective in battle. Unfortunately, her unique ability only counters attacks 20% of the time. Additionally, she can only be utilized within a Pikemen army, which doesn’t have any other strong commanders to lead or support it.

Yi Sun-Shin

Yi Sun-Shin is a character who primarily deals damage, but his abilities are rather ordinary. He lacks buffs or unique effects. Instead, he purposefully incurs a debuff to activate his signature move, which can easily be disrupted. Consequently, his secondary skill tends not to activate as frequently as one might expect.

Yi Seong-Gye

Yi Seong-Gye is an attack hero primarily designed for main command positions, and this limitation also applies to Cavalry units. Unfortunately, his commander abilities and signature skill are not particularly remarkable. If you manage to obtain him, he can be useful in the early stages of the game, but he becomes virtually ineffective once you reach Castle Level 17.

Darius the Great

Darius the Great is primarily ideal for teaming up. While you might discover some utility for him in early-game PvP due to his defensive abilities, he struggles in late-game scenarios because he’s the only one with the potential to bypass defenses, but this ability only has a 30% success rate.
