New Farm Life Sim on Steam Is a Cozy Hodgepodge of Stardew Valley and Hogwarts Legacy, and I’m Already Bewitched

I love researching games, and it often leads me to discover hidden indie titles. Recently, I found one on Steam that I’ve been completely captivated by. While learning about Eastshade Studios’ game Eastshade, I stumbled upon their new farm life sim. It’s a delightful mix of Stardew Valley and Hogwarts Legacy, featuring a beautiful art style, a fantasy world powered by magic, and surprisingly excellent voice acting. I’m already eagerly anticipating its release and am even willing to overlook potential problems when it finally comes out.

Songs of Glimmerwick is a new open-world farming game coming to Steam that combines the magic school experience with the gameplay of Stardew Valley. Since Stardew Valley is a beloved indie hit that perfected the farming sim formula established by Harvest Moon – and added a lot of heart – I’m always looking for similar games. Given my enjoyment of Hogwarts Legacy, Songs of Glimmerwick has definitely caught my attention, and now all that’s left is to wait for its release.

Songs of Glimmerwick Puts Hogwarts Legacy Under a Cozy, Stardew Valley-Shaped Blanket

Saying Songs of Glimmerwick is like Stardew Valley meets Hogwarts Legacy doesn’t quite capture what makes it special. While it borrows ideas from both, it adds its own unique spin, offering something you won’t find in many other games. You’ll find familiar elements – attending a magic school and running a farm – but Songs of Glimmerwick boasts a distinctive art style and a remarkably creative magic system. In fact, it might even stand out more than games like Witchbrook, which feels very similar to a blend of Stardew Valley and Hogwarts Legacy.

In Songs of Glimmerwick, you’ll enter the enchanting world of Glimmerwick and become a student at its famous magic university. You’ll learn spells by attending classes, tend to the university’s garden, and build relationships with the islanders. The game also features relaxing activities similar to Stardew Valley, such as fishing, attending festivals, and exploring. Beyond that, you can join a band, go seashell diving, or even join the Green Sprites for adventures in the forest!

Songs of Glimmerwick’s Standout Feature Is Its Magic System

What truly sets Songs of Glimmerwick apart is its unique magic system, which is based on music. Instead of traditional wands, witches in Glimmerwick use music to cast spells, creating a fresh take on magic compared to other games. But it’s not just that magic is musical – it’s how you use it, even for everyday tasks like gardening, that makes the game special.

I’ve been really enjoying Songs of Glimmerwick! Unlike Stardew Valley where you’re doing almost all the farming work yourself, this game lets you use magic to help out. I can cast spells to enchant my tools so they work on their own, and even summon rain clouds to water my crops – no more watering can! But it’s not just about farming; magic is everywhere. I can actually talk to trees and frogs, and use spells to get past obstacles as I explore. It’s a really unique experience.

Songs of Glimmerwick Gives Stardew Valley’s Heart a Voice

A major reason people love Stardew Valley is how lively and engaging the town and its residents feel – it’s a place you genuinely want to learn more about. The game creates deep and believable connections between you and the characters, even though they don’t have voices. However, Songs of Glimmerwick might take this even further. Not only does it feature fully voiced characters, but early trailers suggest those voice performances are exceptionally well done.

Some people worry that voice acting can detract from a game, and whether it works really depends on the game itself. However, it seems like a perfect fit for Songs of Glimmerwick. Unlike many farm life simulators, Glimmerwick is primarily a story-focused RPG where farming feels like a secondary activity. In a game like that, good voice acting is really important – but only if it’s well done, as bad voice acting can be more of a problem than no voice acting at all. Luckily, Songs of Glimmerwick seems to have excellent voice performances.

Eastshade Studios announced in March 2024 that their game, Songs of Glimmerwick, already features over 100 unique characters, with more being added. These characters aren’t just static; many have daily routines and will even change clothes sometimes.

Songs of Glimmerwick Is Currently Without a Release Date, But I Hope It Arrives Soon

Even though I’m a huge fan of games like Stardew Valley and Hogwarts Legacy, there’s no release date yet for Songs of Glimmerwick. I wish it were coming out soon – I’ve been completely captivated since I first learned about it! It looks amazing, and even a short preview has convinced me it’s going to be special. I’m already excited, and I suspect you might be too after hearing about it.

Despite the long wait, there’s still reason to be optimistic about Songs of Glimmerwick. The developers shared a trailer four years ago, suggesting a release might be closer than we think. They also regularly post development updates on Steam, with a new one potentially arriving this March if the pattern continues. Considering the game is being made by a small team, the extended development time is understandable. A recent comment to a fan on Steam in December confirmed the game is still in progress and that a demo will be available before the full release. Hopefully, we’ll get to play it soon – I’m really excited about this game!

Songs of Glimmerwick is currently available to wishlist on Steam.
