Okay, so in High on Life 2, you’re gonna run into a ton of weirdos, but Apples is seriously one of the strangest. I met him floating around in Prismeria – that’s this really cool fantasy area where I was taking down Finance Wiz James Stevenson for a bounty. He’s super quiet and mysterious, and I’m still trying to figure him out!
You’ll need to first find and investigate James Stevenson’s apartment. After that, you’ll arrive in Prismeria and meet a character named Apples. As you work to complete the bounty on Stevenson, you’ll face some choices involving Apples, and these choices will determine what happens – and whether we learn about Apples’ past and what led to his current outcast status in High on Life 2.
High on Life 2: Should You Denounce or Side With Him?

Early in High on Life 2, after you go through the Misty Woods and climb the waterfall, Apples will start talking to you as you approach the town’s castle gates. He’ll immediately ask if you’re his friend – even though you’ve just met and he’s acting strangely – giving you your first choice to make in the game.
Like many choices in High on Life 2, including the one about dating in the beginning, this decision doesn’t have a significant impact on the story. Whether you tell Apples you’re his friend or not, he’ll react accordingly – he’ll be happy if you do, or claim he misunderstood if you don’t, but will still expect a favor for helping you earlier. Regardless of your choice, you’ll then be able to ring the bell to call the guards who protect the town entrance.
The guards were surprised and annoyed to see you arrive at the castle with Apples. He had warned you beforehand that the people there weren’t happy with him – it was more than just a simple disagreement.
The guards demand you clearly reject Apples or face consequences. However, your choice actually doesn’t change anything – if you declare “Apples is our friend!”, you’ll just hear different dialogue. Either way, the guards let you pass, and even express sympathy that you’ve been tricked by Apples. If you choose a different response, Apples will simply storm off. Ultimately, your decision doesn’t affect your progress, and you’re free to continue your journey.
What Did Apples Do in High on Life 2?
This is one of the biggest mysteries in the game. The game never explains what Apples did in High on Life 2 to earn the intense hatred of Prismeria’s citizens. It’s possible future downloadable content or sequels might reveal the answer, but for now, it remains unknown – much like the enigmatic Talking Cat from Rick and Morty.
You’ll see Apples again later in this mission. After solving the Blue Wizard’s riddle and defeating him, Apples will help you escape an angry crowd who are upset about the death of their financial advisor.
Now, you’re given another decision, but it doesn’t actually affect the story. You can either let Apple take the blame for James Stevenson’s murder, or claim you were the killer. If you choose to let Apple take the blame, they’ll be trapped and forced to fight the townspeople. If you say you did it, the townspeople will attack Apple for lying, leading to the same outcome. Either way, the story continues as normal.
As you head towards the portal painting to return home, Bowie supports the townspeople’s claim that Apples committed a truly awful act – a surprisingly dark turn for a game rated for mature audiences. He also insists he wasn’t involved in whatever we suspect, so while the truth about Apples’ actions in High on Life 2 remains a mystery, we at least know it wasn’t that particular thing.
