Embark Studios, the developer of ARC Raiders, recently made a subtle change in the latest update, Shrouded Sky, which released on February 24 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. They lowered the amount of materials players receive when recycling or salvaging certain ARC Raiders components. While the update included balance adjustments, bug fixes, and improvements, this specific change wasn’t mentioned in the official patch notes.
Fans were hoping for improvements after a disappointing update in January that introduced a divisive 1v3 matchmaking and a weak Map Condition for Buried City. The latest ARC Raiders patch, called Shrouded Sky, delivers a lot of new content. The biggest addition is the Hurricane Map Condition, which throws dangerous weather into the mix. Players will also find a new Raider Deck, fresh items, and two challenging new ARC enemies.
ARC Raiders Quitely Nerfs ARC Components
The February update for Shrouded Sky brought a lot of new content, but also made some powerful items, like Wolfpacks and Deadlines, more difficult to obtain by increasing their crafting costs. Players have now discovered additional changes: the amount of materials you get back when recycling key ARC components – including Bastion Cells, Leaper Pulse Units, and Rocketeer Drivers – has been significantly reduced. While recycling these components now gives you extra ARC Alloys, you’ll receive half as many Advanced Mechanic Components as before – only one instead of two.
Fans are upset that a recent change wasn’t mentioned in the 1.17.0 patch notes. Many have voiced their frustration online, with one player calling it the worst part of the update and others criticizing the developers, Embark, for not communicating the change clearly. They argue that all adjustments should be listed in the patch notes. The original post has received thousands of upvotes and hundreds of comments, as players feel Embark is making ARC Raiders increasingly difficult to play alone and is diminishing the game’s enjoyment.
Players were frustrated not only with the main nerfs in the Shrouded Sky update, but also with several smaller changes. If you haven’t seen the update for ARC Raiders yet, Embark has changed how crafting works for many items. For example, crafting a Wolfpack grenade now requires a component dropped by ARC enemies – specifically, a Rocketeer Driver – in addition to the usual materials. Many players feel this change makes Wolfpack grenades ineffective, since you now need an item from the enemies they’re designed to fight.
Embark hasn’t said exactly why it made these changes, but it likely wants to make boss battles in ARC Raiders more challenging. The developers recently acknowledged that players were teaming up across entire servers to defeat bosses like the Queen and Matriarch faster than expected. Now that it costs more to create the Wolfpack and Deadline weapons commonly used against these large enemies, players might take longer to defeat them.
