Popular streamer xQc is excited about the upcoming mobile game, Overwatch Rush, but he’s also worried it might not keep players engaged for very long. He thinks having Overwatch on mobile is a cool idea, but he’s not sure it will stay popular for an extended period.
Felix Lengyel, better known as xQc, is a hugely popular streamer on Twitch, boasting over 12 million followers and having once peaked at over 330,000 viewers in a single stream. Before becoming a full-time streamer, he was also a professional Overwatch player. He started in smaller competitions and eventually played for Team Canada in the 2017 Overwatch World Cup, reaching the finals, and continued to represent his country for the next two years.
xQc is Unsure About Overwatch Rush’s Future
During his recent 10-hour stream on February 24th, xQc discussed the announcement of Overwatch Rush, a new mobile version of Overwatch designed for Android and Apple devices. After watching initial gameplay footage from Blizzard Entertainment, xQc seemed cautiously optimistic, saying, “Chat, this actually looks kinda decent.” He mostly watched the 4v4 gameplay for about two and a half minutes, offering limited commentary, but ultimately felt it didn’t “look bad.”
While xQc seemed generally positive, he did express some doubts about how engaging Overwatch Rush would be in the long run. He wondered, “It seems fun for a few matches, but I’m not sure how much replay value it has, you know?” The game appears to retain the core hero shooter elements of the original Overwatch, but with significant changes – notably a shift from first-person to a top-down perspective and the addition of touch controls. xQc seemed worried about how players would adapt to these changes, and he jokingly reacted to a comment comparing the game to a mobile MOBA.
Seeing familiar heroes like Reinhardt, Mercy, Tracer, and Soldier 76 in the first gameplay clip excited xQc. He saw it as a positive sign that the developers might be going back to the original hero lineup, saying he fully supports that idea. xQc has been critical of some of the heroes added to Overwatch later on, and he specifically believes Brigitte, who was added in 2018, negatively impacted the game.
Image vis Blizzard Entertainment Even though Overwatch Rush is still under development and doesn’t have a release date yet, there’s still time for players like xQc to share their thoughts on it. With the recent launch of Overwatch‘s Reign of Talon Season 1 and five new heroes, the game is already gaining popularity. Blizzard is probably hoping Overwatch Rush will continue this positive trend when it’s released.
