This Thursday marks the tenth anniversary of Stardew Valley! To celebrate ten years of farming and friendships, the game’s creator, Eric Barone (also known as ConcernedApe), released a heartfelt video reflecting on the game’s amazing journey.
Watching the development retrospective was seriously moving. They showed everything – like, everything – from the very first, rough version of Sprout Valley (which they called a prototype back then) to how the mines first started taking shape. And get this – they even showed off some cool stuff they cut from the game, like a whole goblin village they were planning to build underground! It was fascinating to see how much work went into it, and what could have been.
Barone also shared a look at his early workspace, showing fans the humble setup where he spent years creating Stardew Valley – a true gamer’s haven!
Clint and Sandy Join the Battle!

The anniversary video celebrated the past and also offered a sneak peek at exciting new features coming in the much-awaited Update 1.7.
In the last few minutes of the presentation, the focus shifted from looking back at Stardew Valley’s history to what’s next. Barone hinted at future updates, and confirmed that fans will finally be able to pursue romantic relationships with Clint and Sandy. “It’s their time!” he said excitedly.
Just a reminder, Clint is the blacksmith in Pelican Town, and Sandy runs the Oasis shop in the Calico Desert. Fans have been asking for years to be able to marry them, and now it’s happening! So go ahead and start planning that wedding!
Besides the new relationships you can build, Update 1.7 will also add a new type of farm and a much-needed improvement to the family system. The developer recently mentioned he’s working on making children more engaging, so expect more details on that soon!
Clint is the blacksmith who lives in Pelican Town, and Sandy runs the Oasis shop in the Calico Desert. Both characters have been popular with players for a long time.
Finally, Barone ended the video by sincerely thanking all the players, mod creators, fellow developers, merchandise partners, and anyone else who has contributed to Stardew Valley’s success over the past ten years.
