Upgrades to Get First In Windblown

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of roguelite gaming under my belt, let me tell you that Windblown has truly captured my heart and attention. The variety of weapons, gifts, and boosts to choose from is simply mind-boggling, and I can’t help but feel like a kid in a candy store every time I start a new run.

Fans of Dead Cells should be excited about Windblown. They’ll find a wealth of Weapons to alter their combat strategies, Perks that subtly enhance gameplay mechanics, and Upgrades that amplify certain stats in areas they want to excel.

As a devoted fan, I’ve come to appreciate another significant feature in top-tier roguelikes: the ability to buy enhancements between playthroughs. These upgrades are neatly categorized and expand with more options as you delve deeper into the game. Not every upgrade will be immediately accessible; you’ll need to advance further before some become available. Yet, there are certain ones that players will eagerly snatch up the moment they appear on the screen.

Which Upgrades to Get First

After a player dies for the first time, they’ll be drawn into the immersive world of Ark, respawning close to Eperin, an NPC character with whom they can interact. Upgrades can be obtained by speaking with him and using the distinctive pink currency, called Cogs, which players will need to purchase in order to unlock new upgrades. Here are some of the most significant upgrades:

Health Flask

Players should expect opponents to move swiftly and evasively, but not invincible. The Health Flask is a crucial item to grab early on since it can restore approximately 60% of the player’s health, potentially saving them from a game-ending blow against tough adversaries. Furthermore, players can continue to enhance this flask, with the maximum upgrade being Health Flask IV.

Backstabber

Increasing the damage that players can inflict on enemies from behind by a certain percentage, which scales over time for added damage. This essentially makes players significantly more lethal.

Recycling

During their gameplay, players may encounter excess equipment on their missions that they don’t require. This update introduces a feature where they can transform these unnecessary items into shells. These shells can be accumulated and later traded in to obtain the specific gear pieces they desire, thereby enhancing and completing the builds they are currently employing for their active gameplay.

Gift Slot

GIfts are Passives that make your character more powerful, and you have a limit of 3. However, Gift Slot will give an extra slot. Having this additional Gift Slot can let players create builds that perform in a whole other league compared to builds limited to just 3 Gift Slots.

At the beginning of each run, players will initially wield a Fish Knife, which is more suited for close combat. However, an Upgrade for the Starting Weapon could provide them with something they might prefer, though it will still remain at a low level. The same applies to the Starting Trinket. While these options can give a powerful start for players seeking one, they won’t be as beneficial compared to other available choices.

FREND-43V3R Upgrades

As players advance in the game, they’ll encounter encrypted memories which, when unlocked, reveal upgrades that can be acquired using their earned currencies. These upgrades can be purchased from a robot named FREND-43V3R. You can find this robot to the northwest of where your expedition begins through the canon. Players will have the opportunity to unlock various types of weapons, gifts, trinkets, and other items as they progress.

Abundance

With this Gift, players can expect a 20% boost in the number of Cogs they receive, allowing them to upgrade more quickly. This upgrade is universally beneficial for any playstyle, making it an excellent choice for anyone as soon as it becomes accessible.

Frost Nova

This item functions as an Area of Effect (AoE) Freeze Trap, which can prove incredibly effective when enemies are grouped together. In this situation, it enables players to deal significant damage to their foes without the need for counterattacks from the frozen targets.

Blade Storm

This item, referred to as a Trinket, enables a player to focus on one specific target, dish out damage, while simultaneously harming any surrounding foes, maintaining a balance between concentration and destruction.

Damage Scythe

This item temporarily summons a Scythe, inflicting 30 points of damage per second for 5 seconds. This occurs whenever the player manages to dish out 250 points of damage at any distance. Consequently, it serves as a versatile tool for all playstyles since it merely boosts the damage output for players.

Trinket Scythe

This Item functions comparably to the Damage Scythe, as both cause Scythes to appear. However, this particular item will only produce these Scythes when players activate a Trinket. Consequently, while it may not be as potent as the Damage Scythe, it serves as an effective alternative to discover during a run compared to other Gifts.

Hit Blast

As a gamer, I’ve just discovered this awesome Gift that amps up the action! It unleashes a burst dealing an impressive 40% of my weapon’s original damage. Just like the Damage Scythe, it’s a game-changer when it comes to dishing out more damage in battles. Plus, it’s perfect for swiftly taking down weaker foes while I concentrate on a single target. However, compared to the Damage Scythe, this Gift requires me to be more mindful of my positioning, adding an extra layer of strategy to my gaming experience.

In this game, there’s an abundance of gifts tailored for various playstyles. Those who favor up-close combat will find Proximity appealing since it boosts both weapon and trinket damage when they’re near enemies. On the other hand, players who prefer to stay at a distance will find no benefit in Proximity. Instead, they should opt for gifts that align with their preferred approach. Tranquility, for instance, provides a 60% damage bonus when there are no enemies nearby. This makes it perfect for players who excel at ranged attacks and want to keep the spotlight on their teammates as they draw enemy aggression.

Double Alterattack

Players ought to frequently perform Alternate Attacks since they yield significantly higher damage. However, this Perk will instigate a second Alternate Attack following the first one, but it will only inflict half of the original damage.
